I hate abbreviations in written conversations. For me it is a kind of disrespect, if somebody has not enough time to type one or two letters more, so he/she should let it be at all. In my personal opinion.

If you're referring to TYPING on the internet, then YES, it is annoying and only makes you look stupid, unless it's a "thing" that you do with your friends, in that case keep it in your little group, don't bring it into a public forum, it only makes you look dumb. If you're referring to SPEAKING- well, are you aware that you're a bigot? You discriminate against people based on language. It's hard to tell from your transcription, but it looks like you're thinking of a dialect like Ebonics. Dialects are NOT inferior to the kind of English you hear on TV and radios. In fact, Ebonics has a verb tense that no other American English dialect has, and all those "errors" you think black people make are actually following highly structured grammatical rules. So, next time you hear someone say "He be workin'," that is NOT an error, it is proper grammar- just not the grammar of the dialect YOU were taught from a textbook. "Correct English" is only the dialect that was chosen to be standardized and taught- it is in no way superior to any other dialect, like Southern, Ebonics, Catskills, etc. Someone said that blacks who use Ebonics are only doing it to create a cultural identity. What's WRONG with you bigots? These people are speaking the language they were RAISED with! It's not something they've decided to do as a demonstration. Now, how would you feel if you went to the South, and talked differently from everyone else? Would you change the way you speak to match them, or stick with the language you were raised with? I don't see what your problem is, unless you're just racist and languist. I'll agree that SOME people will go all out with hip-hop or rap slang, and that's equivalent to any other young people who pick up a different way of talking, like you said popculture. You should make sure, though, that you don't mistake Ebonics for some hiphop trend. And don't be too hard on kids who speak that way- communication is how you fit in with your friends, and if it's popular for all their friends to use pop slang, that's only natural. Words like "dawg" are slang, just like slang words I'm sure you use. I personally say things like, "Don't you hate it, man, when people act like anyone who speaks differently from them is inferior?" Words like this often vary from dialect to dialect, but generally mean the same thing.

Bob Saget, God rest his soul, loved abbreviations when he was still alive. So I think that anyone who hates abbrivations is against Bob Saget. He died protecting the freedom to use abbreviations so I think we should use them in his honor.

I don't hate abberviations, but I do hate it when go and say things like PIN number.

That's like saying Personal Identification Number Number.

I'm not a fan of most internet contractions (BBL, LOL, AFAIK), but it's mostly because I generally imagine them being said in a really loud, dumb, obnoxious voice.
