HI Manda...your cat would be consider a domestic short/medium hair tabby cat with mittens. Tabby cats can be silver, brown and have various markings (spotted, striped, ticking), but the distinctive marking is the "M" on the forehead. Tabbies are not a breed (nor are tuxedo cats), but rather a description of the markings on a cat.

Here are many photos of tabby cat w/similar markings: http://images.google.com/images?client=safari&rls=en&q=tabby+cat&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi

Nonetheless, you have a beautiful cat.

What you have to remember is the names you are calling the cat is because of the MARKINGS. there are many different types of marked kittens in one litter.
somewhere down the line (if you didnt get a show cat linage) there has been all sorts of different cats mating with other ones. Therefore the kittens all come out different.
In one litter we had a:
all black, all white, brown black and white tabby looking cat, pure tuxedo (white and black) and one that was all back except for its front paws

What an adorable expression he has on his face!
Yeah, his coloring looks like a tabby to me, with white markings/tuxedo. Tuxedo isn't a breed, it's a coloring, as is Tabby.

Its tabby with white, people also call it a tabby bicolor (meaning one of the colors is tabby, one is white). A tuxedo is really a bicolor cat too, black with white.Tuxedos and tabbies aren't breeds though, they just have genes for different colors- like with people and hair color. Most housecats are actually domestic short hair breed.

Basically your cat has a tabby fur coloring gene, but also a gene for white spots, they cover up the tabby. This explains it better than I can:)

Medium duration hair because it is easy to handle and you can still do most of the hairstyles

It's a tabby with white markings. I have one a lot like that one. If it had more white, it would be called a "cap and saddle" or a "van." These are colorations, not breeds.

tuxedo and tabby are not actually breeds. they are just descriptors for appearance. breed examples are abyssian, persian, russian blue, cornish rex (really wierd lookign cat) etc. but i think breed focus is harmful to the cat community. there are so many shelter cats that need adopting and 95 % of cats are just really really mixed breeds. i think your cat is beautiful. love and cherish him regardless of breed
