My grandson is going into the Marines and leaves soon for boot camp at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, CA. Looking for a "going to boot camp gift". I don't know what they are allowed to have in their possession. Trying to contact a recruiter to ask.

Everything is taken from them when they get there and put in a brown paper bag until graduation. Just send him a letter EVERYDAY. That is an important thing to have during recruit training. He might be able to keep his running shoes however. Don't send him candy or food during boot camp or any packages that could get him into trouble. Good luck and thank you for raising a wonderful patriotic son!

my cousin went there and i don't think he was aloud to have any personal items with him during the process of boot camp..but after he graduated he can!! i mad my cousin a really nice pillow with soldiers and the american flag all over it...he just loved it..because it was so personal..so whatever you do decide to give him make sure it comes from your heart so it will mean so much more to him knowing that you put your time into something that means so much to him.

The marines will issue him everything he needs.
Just give him your love and support, and maybe a nice dinner at a favorite restuarant before he leaves.
in Basic, meals are little more than a fuel stop, so have one he can enjoy before he leaves.

I would give him a promise to write every single day. This would be the most important gift of all.

Everything on his person when he arrives at MCRD will be packed up and stored while he is in training. There's nothing really you can get him at this point that he'll be able to retain. It would be better to wait and get him something at graduation.
