That depends on where you live.
Where I live, there are more cases of theft reported in December than in the rest of the year combined. Also more drunken drivers get caught than at any other time of the year. I think there are possibly fewer violent crimes around Christmas though than at other times of the year.

There is always people who take advantage of the holidays - lots of thefts and such at the holidays. Lots of robberies - pick pockets, car break ins, etc.
I worked loss prevention years ago - always saw a lot more parking lot robberies... Lots of old people getting robbed. Lots of windows broken on car windows when people left shopping bags in plain sight inside the vehicle.
I don't think anyone here can easily answer your question to a fact - as you will basically have people's experiences on whether the holiday's are more or less crime ridden. That will just be reports of personal experiences. You;d have to find some study of crime stats broken down by monthly intevals to make a true judgement call.

For what?
I can't speak to people's personal experiences.
From the police department's stand point, we sometimes get domestics or family fights during christmas. However, I would say call volume is actually much lower then any average day.

Or D) Christmas crimes vary based upon location and make up. I DO beleive it is the greatest fire time of the year though.
