this poem really represent how we muslim girls feel toward our religion and our hijab
this only for clarifying the misconcetion about us
(What do you see
when you look at me
Do you see someone limited,
or someone free
All some people can do is just look and stare
Simply because they can't see my hair
Others think I am controlled and uneducated
They think that I am limited and un-liberated
They are so thankful that they are not me
Because they would like to remain 'free'
Well free isn't exactly the word I would've used
Describing women who are cheated on and abused
They think that I do not have opinions or voice
They think that being hooded isn't my choice
They think that the hood makes me look caged
That my husband or dad are totally outraged
All they can do is look at me in fear
And in my eye there is a tear
Maybe the guys won't think I am a cutie
But at least I am filled with more inner beauty

Hooded girls are the ones really helping the muslim cause
The role that we play definitely deserves applause
I will be recognized because I am smart and bright
And because some people are inspired by my sight
We have the strength to do what we think is right
Even if it means putting up a life long fight
So you see, we are the ones that are free and liberated
We are not the ones that are sexually terrorized and violated
So when people ask you how you feel about the hood
Just sum it up by saying 'baby its all good' ;)

I liked that poem and I'm a Christian.
Did you know that 'back in the day' many Christian and Jewish women covered their heads in something similar to a hijab?
Now I agree that if a woman does not want to wear one then she shouldn't have to.
I also agree that Muslims shouldn't use western women as an bad example of women who are "really oppressed".
In free countries women are allowed to do whatever they please with their physical appearances and as religious people we should respect that, and they should respect ours.
I like the hijab on Muslim women and I think they are beautiful, especially the ones in pretty colors with graphic designs.
I would wear a hijab, but I'm a Christian and wouldn't want nobody to get the wrong idea! lol
There are some headcovering Christians out there. [Check out the two links below for more insight on this topic]

its nice u feel that way. I'm a christian and i think i dont have to be covered up from head to toe to be respected, the men around me love God enough to have self control and when they have a conversation they can talk to me and look me straight in the Eye. In Christianity i am taught to have selfcontrol and stir away from temptation, but by what u said its convinces me more that in your religion temptation are covered up and are gotten rid of. I dress modestly, i dont need Hijab to be respected. You say u love wearing hijab and that's Good cuz if u didnt i'm sure u would be oppressed and forced to wear it anyways.

That is all fine and I am happy for you.
It just really bothers me when Muslim women describe their freedom through the way men treat non Muslim women. Freedom has nothing to do with a man. It has everything to do with standing up for yourself. Muslim women are not free in my eyes because in the Muslim religion, men are the ones who provide for the women. Non Muslim women do not need a man nor do they care what a man thinks of them. I am a woman who can raise her 2 daughters without a man. I am free to do so.

I think it's sad a woman should have to cover herself up because men can't control themselves. That's really what the whole hijab is about you know. It basically takes away all responsibility of a man's sexual urges and puts it on the woman. If he rapes her - it was her fault for not covering it up.
I have a hard time believing that many men are actually so weak willed that they can't control their penises.
Convenient.

Thank you for the beautiful poem. I have often thought beyond the veil. Western women are treated like slabs of meat. There is not nearly enough focus on inner beauty. Plus, plenty of Western women are abused. Which is really sad considering our rush to judgement of other countries.

Well said, by a brainwashed sheep. No offense, but the fear you run from has been instilled in you by your religion and your male relatives. You have become less of a human and more of a slave.
Freedom, practice it. You'll learn to love it.

I didn't think Muslims would allow their women to write poetry. Isn't that similar to free-thought and imagination? LOL,
Seriously I don't care if you wear it or not. Feel free, but when you are in the West, please try to intergrate and take it off. Try to fit in because if you don't people will always be negative to your people.

So you speak for all Muslim women? You cannot.
And are you saying those women who don't wear the hijab are cheated and abused? Nah, you have not convinced me.

Praise be to Allaah.
Women cover their hair because Allaah has commanded them to do so, and it is not permissible for them to go against what He says and disobey His command. Allaah has only commanded them to do this because there is great wisdom in it. Part of that wisdom is that it protects a woman’s honour from the “human wolves” who are looking for easy prey to attack and devour, and a morsel cannot be eaten unless it is prepared and ready – which is what we see in those woman who make a display of themselves, who by their appearance are calling those wolves to come and take whatever they want!
Confirmation of this is to be found in the words of Allaah (interpretation of the meaning):
“… That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed…” [al-Ahzaab 33:59]. If a woman covers herself, then immoral and corrupt men will know that this is not part of their prey, thus Allaah will protect them and take care of them.
Allaah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) have issued a stern warning to women who make a display of themselves. An example of this is:
Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are two types of the people of Hell whom I have not seen: a people with whips like the tails of cattle, with which they beat the people, and women who are clothed but naked, walking with an enticing gait and with their heads looking like the humps of camels, leaning to one side. They will not enter Paradise and will not even smell its fragrance, although its fragrance can be detected from such and such a distance.”
(Narrated by Muslim, 2128).
A woman [or a man] should not try to comprehend Islamic rulings with her reason – which is unable to encompass the wisdom of sharee’ah. She should know that whatever Allaah has enjoined upon her contains nothing but goodness and happiness for her, her family and society as a whole. It is known that a woman’s uncovering her hair makes her more attractive to men, which could lead to them forming hopes about her and committing immoral actions. Islam wants society to be clean, with no provocation of desires, outrage or uncovering of women’s charms – which include their hair – which can lead to others being tempted by her and which opens the door to evil and its people.
We need to point out again that Islam means submitting to Allaah. The believer follows the command of Allaah even if he does not know the wisdom behind it or he does not find anything to convince his reason of it, because his obedience of his Lord and his submission to His command take priority over all other things, and worship is based on obedience and submission.
We ask Allaah to show us the truth and help us to follow it, and to show us falsehood and help us to avoid it.
And Allaah knows best.
