Quote: " Probation is a lot less stricter as oppose to parole if you're on parole it's like being in jail, because your parole officer can visit you at your job, house, hang out and where ever you are."
Actually - not necessarily true. I am a probation officer. I can do home and work visits as well. In fact, I do a lot of field visits on the sex offenders on my caseload.
As stated above - as per the original question... Parole is release from prison before your entire sentence is up. If you get released early, you are usually on parole for the remainder of your sentence. Probation ispart of the original sentence - where you get probation instead of prison. Although, there are some exceptions...
Shock probation here in Texas... Someone gets sent to prison for up to 6 months. And, assuming they 1/2 way behaved in prison, they are brought back and put on probation.
Every state does different things, however. I have a probationer from another state who SERVED 10 years in prison and was then put on PROBATION for 10 years. This is an older case, and apparently that state has changed the way they do things.
But, each state has their own "spin" on probation. And, in some states, probation and parole is handled by the same agency. Whereas Texas has state employed parole officers and each county runs their own probation department (following state guidelines).

One is probation which is given in lieu of jail or prison time
and one is parole which is granted at the latter end of the prison sentence for good behavior or something like that. Parole is more supervised and less freedoms are allowed.
