I don't believe in ghosts per se(the spirit of a once living person,in ethereal form, who has nothing better to do in the afterlife than make boards squeak or walk down cemetery roads. The concept is silly.
I certainly believe there is unexplained phenomena, and people DO see things, maybe even things that look like people.I don't see it as a "restless" spirit.I don't believe ANY contact is made.My personal theory, and I admit it could just be so much bullshyt,is that time isn't understood well at all,I don't claim to even fathom the mechanics of it at all,but maybe, just maybe,"ghost sightings"are a "slip in time" "a video of the past"
Granted, many, and possibly all,are hoaxes, but that's a lot of people.I think they see SOMETHING,and interpret this as a self aware spirit.I'll go with the "slip in time"where you get a snapshot of a past event.
Maybe one day we will understand enough about time to verify or debunk my hypothesis.Currently, time is a strange critter to us,and we don't know that my hypothesis is impossible. If so,oh well, been wrong before

I used to believe in ghosts until I had an experience at an amusement park. A couple of my friends went their one night in their van. They brought along their dog but he wasn't much help. Kept getting in trouble because of his insatiable appetite! Anyways, turns out it was just the old groundskeeper from the amusement park dressing up like ghosts and using elaborate electronics to scare people away. He probably would have gotten away with it if it weren't for my friends.

Technically speaking - atheists don't believe in God. That is the end of the definition.
Having said that - I would be surpised if an atheist believed in other supernatural things like ghosts but it would not be impossible.
(btw - I don't believe in ghosts)

I actually witnessed what most people would call a "poltergeist" at a house I once lived in.
I had 3 or 4 experiences personally where I saw objects vibrate on shelves, and doors slamming into the jamb, etc.
No one has to believe me when I say this, of course. But as an atheist, I don't really see why anyone would accuse me of lying about it. It doesn't exactly support my position.
However, I don't see it as evidence of anything "supernatural", necessarily. It was definitely "unexplained", however.

I don't know about other atheists, but I believe in ghosts.
I didn't always believe in ghosts until I met a good friend of mine a couple of years ago. Her parents mansion is haunted and I've experienced way too much to not believe in ghosts.

There are likely a few, but many, perhaps most, atheists also tend to be rationalists and skeptics who prefer to "know" rather than just "believe" and knowledge requires some evidence. ~Ex-xian, atheist, rationalist

Atheists vary in their beliefs about such things. The only thing all atheists have in common is no belief in the existence of deities.
I, personally, do not believe in ghosts.
