I am heading on the Carnival Destiny with my husband January 5th. Although we aren't worried about spending money on alcohol on the ship, we would like to bring some wine onboard. I saw on a posting somewhere that somebody checked on a packed case with alcohol and it was fine. Can anyone share their experiences?

Some people are going to give you the text book answer which is you can bring 1 or 2 bottles of wine on board--I am going to give you the real answer:

I have cruised 7 times just in the last year on Carnival and Princess alone. I have brought alcohol including vodka, wine, and other spirits and have NEVER gotten it taken. Of course the cruise lines DO NOT want you to take alcohol on board becaue they will lose money. Honestly, do you think that they are going to go through all 3,000 passengers luggage on board? No way!!! I would pack it in your bag that you are going to carry on the ship with you or pack it in bubble wrap and put it in shoe boxes-- I have known PLENTY of people bring wine and other alchohol on board, saved themselves a TON of money and nothing happened.

here is Carnival's OFFICIAL WORD:

an I Bring Liquor On Board?

A liquor and beverage consumption policy was created in order for Carnival to be able to control the liquor consumption of minors and the quantities consumed that lead to the disruptive behavior of others on board.

Liquor and Beverage Policy

Bringing Alcohol On Board - Embarkation

Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages onboard. However, guests (21 years and older only) may bring one bottle of wine or champagne per person on board only during embarkation at the beginning of the cruise. A $10 corkage fee per bottle will be charged should you wish to consume this wine in the dining room or a $14 corkage fee per bottle in the Supper Club. Guests may bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages.

All alcohol, additional quantities of wine/champagne or excessive quantities of non-alcoholic beverages will be confiscated and discarded without compensation. Guests may purchase a variety of beverages on board the ship. Alcoholic beverages will not be sold or served to anyone under the age of 21. We reserve the right to refuse the sale of alcoholic beverages to anyone. Alcoholic beverages purchased in the ship’s gift shops or in ports of call will be retained by Carnival until the end of the voyage.

Ports-of-Call

Alcoholic beverages of any kind purchased in any Port-of-Call will be confiscated at the gangway, stored on board and retained by Carnival until the end of the voyage.
