There is no such thing as a sniper rifle.
A rifle is just a rifle until it's in the hands of a TRAINED sniper, then it becomes a sniper rifle.

Well, if you have to ask this question then im not really worried about you killing anyone. The remington 700 model is the military/police base action for a sniper rifle. But like a guy said earlier, just because you have a rifle that will shoot a thousand yards doesnt mean you can shoot that far. The ideal shot for a sniper is around 800 yards. Im willing to bet that you can not hit a 10ft target from that range. Thats 8 football fields. Then you have to figure the cost of the scope. That will run you more than the rifle did, but without it, your pretty much screwed. Buy a airsoft sniper rifle< you can get one of those for like 60 bucks. scope and all. And you dont have to worry about windages or distances.

As many well informed people have said before me. There is no such thing as a sniper rifle, that is a media made term. There are only rifles, for long range there is a list of rifles that will do fine. Remington makes the 700 and 770 they are common and good, they have a lot more models too. Ruger makes a some that are good..

As it has been said so eloquently and not so eloquently here by my predecesors, you will get what you pay for. Quality is not cheap and cheap is not accurate. The Remington 700 BDL is the popular favorite for many departments and the US military, not withstanding the new 50 cal sniper system that has proven to be incredible at 1 1/2 miles. A Remington 700 set up in what is termed PSS (Police Sniper System) would run around $3000 but that is without optics. A good scope can run anywhere from $450 to $1200 and I am not talking about Infrared or night vision. After that, it is up to the shooter's skill and knowledge. I hope this helps.

What you are talking about is a highly tuned and highly accurized military rifle, which, in the hands of a trained sniper is used for taking out target on the battlefield.
To answer your question, the best you can get on a real tight budget, relativly speaking considering the rifle you are asking about, is the 1903A4 WWII Sniper rifle, here is one for $4950.00
1903A4 WWII Sniper rifle
http://www.gunsamerica.com/976965824/Guns/Rifles/Military-Misc-Rifles-US/Sniper-Variants/Remington_1903A4_WWII_Sniper_rifle_30_06_w_Weaver_scope.htm
You can get a tactical rifle for about $850 to $3000, but it won't be as accurate as a real sniper rifle.
So, in other words, on a real tight budget, forget about it.

There are some things that just don't fit; honest and politician, sober and drunk, yada; now we add long range sniper rifle and real tight budget. Don't let your thinking process be overly influenced by TV, the movies and what you read in fiction; reality is quite different.

I agree with the others on "sniper rifle" It sounds like you are young and know only what you see on the TV. Sniper rifles are for shooting humans. And only the military and the law enforcement are allowed to use them for their intended purpose. So forget about buying or acquiring a "sniper rifle" Now if you want a good accurate rifle for target or hunting then buy a Savage Mdl 110 or 111. They are the most economical and accurate rifles sold today.

If i might ask, where did you get the name SNIPER RIFLE ?
There are such PERSONS as snipers ( highly trained people, who are expert at shooting ) & they have been through a very demanding course, to learn how to do this & be able to return, so that they will be ready for their next assignment.
other than there not being such a thing as a sniper rifle, why would you want a rifle to snipe with ???????????

Sniper rifle? That's a misnomer. It should be: "Sniper's rifle." Although the grassy knoll is still debated, it is generally accepted that Lee used a 6.5 Carcano purchased mail order for less than 20 bucks. Whitman, among other weapons, used a 6mm Remington. So tell us, what is your pressing need for a sniper's rifle? Is this something homeland security needs to know about? Inquiring minds want to know.
