In HUD regs a child up to age of 18 months can share a room with a parent. However, after that time they must have a seperate room. In addition depending on the child's age in relation to a sibling they may not be able to share a room (you can't have a 13 yr old girl share a room with a 2 yr old girl). You also can't have two children of the opposite sex, no matter the age, share a room. This all pertains to HUD regs. If a judge set your visitation regs up to address housing concerns then you have to go by that. And at 3 they need their own bed-period.

I don't think it a LAW but more of a regulation certain organizations have. Public Housing sponsored by HUD states that children of the opposite gender over the age of 3 must have their own room and may not share a room with their parents. This means if there are two boys and a girl and any of them is over 3 then the boys can share a room and the girl must have her own room, it also means that once the child is 3 they must have their own room if living in public housing. DCFS also has regulations regarding visitation of a child that states they must not share a room with their parents. I had a friend who's daughter could not spend the night because all he had was a studio apartment. Hope that helps

I doubt there is a law but it is always a good idea for a child to at least have their own bed even if it is in the the parents room when visiting if a room of their own is not possible.

I think the law is 5, and that is only if you have a girl and boy in the same room, otherwise same sex children can share a room. If the girl child is staying with the mother in her bed its ok unless the mother has a boyfriend that sleeps there too.

In New Hampshire children who are of male and female sex should be in different rooms by age 5. But never have I heard it being enforced. Some courts/ social service agency's may require that you provide your child with his/her own room, while others will accept a bed in your room for the child. My daughters all slept with me and their dad at some point.

The only thing I know is that I had a friend whose boyfriend was having a hard time with that. He had two kids, and they the court wouldn't let certain things happen cuz he only had a 1 bedroom apt. So yes, I know that does happen, but I don't know if it's an actual law or not.

Ive heard that too and I think its that the child needs to have their own bed to sleep in by that age.because it is unrealistic to expect everyone to be able to afford a room for each and every person in their household.

I don't think there are any laws about this, but it could be a condition of a visitation agreement.
