Warm compresses. Also, you can use arnica gel (a homeopathic remedy available at your health food store). I use it all the time when my back gets sore. My husband rubs it in for me, and I get almost immediate relief. I have a birth defect that causes back problems, so it has been a lifesaver.

Ice or heat are both good for pain relief. Take Tylenol, or advil for the pain. You could also try sportscreme if someone can rub it on your back.

Until you can see your doctor, I put a quilt on the floor in front of my big easy chair, I lay down on this and put my feet on the easy chair to take the pressure off my spine. It takes a few moments but it sure helps.

Call your doctor for an appointment and a new prescription. Until you can see him/her, lie down with a heating pad and try to relax.
