I have been driving a 2000 beetle for about 1year and found out it has been in an accident prior to me buying it. It burns oil and the dip stick cracked. Does anyone know of problems with this type of car?

There are no inherent problems with VW Beetles that I know of. You can satisfy yourself by going to the NHTSA(National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) web-site, they track auto related problems and have a list of recalls, both public and secret. It would be wise if you had your car inspected at a VW dealership where their mechanics are trained to know what to look for in regards to engine problems. Also, you can go to web-site "carfax" to see if your car was really in an accident or not, they have a way to know about these things based on your vehicle number. There is always the possiblity that the engine suffered some kind of damage if their was an accident. For the most part, VW engines are some of the strongest and best engineered on the market.
