This week, after reviewing his own new data, NASA climate scientist Jay Zwally said: "At this rate, the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free at the end of summer by 2012, much faster than previous predictions."
Anyone else notice that the year 2012 is coming up with a greater frequency for the prediction of doom and gloom associated with "global warming"?
Why do you think this is?
Could this be that the Mayans, Nostradamus, and Biblical References all point to 2012 as the end of the world?
Are the "warmers" piggy-backing on this next fear of pending apocalypse?
Or maybe the "warmers" don't want the end of the world fears to upstage global warming and push warming out of the headlines?
What are your thoughts?

Also in 2012 there is an election. Al Gore will run for president. All the weak minded people he fooled will vote for him because of his "leadership" and taking action on a "problem".

Whether it heralds a new beginning or an abrupt end is open to speculation. Some do say that the next Pope is prophesied to be the last before the Judgment. The Vatican holds very closely to the Prophecy of St. Malachy. This Medieval Monk had detailed visions of 112 Popes until Doomsday, also known as The Biblical Apocalypse. The current Pope, Benedict XVI is the 111th named Pope, only one Pope remains so the date 12-21-12 could be a very significant date to the Judgement day. I don't believe that Global warming will peak by the year 2012 so no, we will not fry in 2012.

I believe that it might be. I have been thinking a lot about that, too. The Bible says that as the end gets nearer, the more disasters will happen, the worse the world will get. The population decreasing, the global warming, the shootings and crazy drivers...
Christians being accused and put into jail, I really am starting to believe that 2012 could in fact be the time of Rapture... But then again, a few select people believed that the world would end June 6, 2006... We really never know...

Making claims about about what will happen 5 years in the future is just a bad career move because people are going to find out how accurate those claims are within his own career.
I notice Jay Zwally uses the word 'nearly'. I don't know what Jay Zwally's definition of nearly is - maybe, by his standards, the Artic Ocean is already nearly ice free in which case his prediction is guaranteed to come true.

I think you shouldn't paint everyone with the same brush. I certainly don't believe the end of the world will occur in 2012, but I do believe man is affecting the climate. And I resent being referred to as a "warmer." I do not believe in AGW because I want to, I believe it because that's what the current understanding of the issue points to by people a lot more intelligent in the filed of study than you or I. Could scientists be wrong, sure. You can never be faulted for doing something when it's based on the current understanding, but if we do nothing and find you're wrong...there is the sin.

I was starting to wonder the same thing. I've known about this possible date since I was 12 years old. My sister, cousin and I discussed it in my dad's old red pick up. It's kinda annoying that the Anthropogenic Global Warming believers are grabbing onto that date for themselves.

It is just coincidence, AGW believers favorite tool is the linear least squares fit, they take a snapshot of current conditions and extrapolate it into the future. If a skeptic attempts to use linear extrapolation, they have charges pressed against them.

OMFG! I was thinking the exact thing yesterday! I seriously think that will be the reason the earth ends! the earth will flood and major climate changes will occur...scary thought huh?
