Sparkles I'm doing it through the doctors with patches and have to say at this point easier than I expected it to be.
Mind you totally lost my temper at work today, kicked the bin across the office and everything! Even my boss was scared! lol

Congratulations - keep going you are making good headway into becoming a non smoker! I gave up in January - had a terrible taste in my mouth - my tongue had a coating on it too but it all went in time. I got my appetite back though and really enjoy my food now! If you get a pang keep remembering that your body is now in recovery - the toxins are leaving your body and just one puff will let all those toxins back in - don't do it. Problem is that I found YA when I gave up and have been addicted ever since.

It's just your body trying to get you to start smoking again. You only think that you have a bad taste because your taste buds are starting to work normal. When you smoke it cuts part of the taste receptors off so you don't notice any change when smoking. Keep going and this wont last long, after that you will be able to taste much better. Have a merry chrimbo and keep strong! ;-)

That is normal. You will also notice your nose smells more, your food taste different, and you can breath better. Stay with it. The doctors have a pill out now that can help really well. Can't think of the name of it, but the doctor will know what you are talking about. If you want to go cold turkey, I would find a support group. Good Luck, from a smoker!

I have never smoked but have a taste in my mouth as I have sinus problems.
Buy Wrigley's no sugar mint chewing gum .
It is very good for refreshing your mouth, especially after eating.
When you brush your teeth, look at your tongue and brush your tongue as well with a mouthwash or a little toothpaste
It should make a big difference. Keep up the no smoking.
Hope this is helpful. All the best.

The problem with smoking is that it kills/impairs the cilia (small hairs) in your nose and lungs that allow for taste and to filter unwanted things from your environment. When you stop smoking they are becoming active again. You will have all new smells and tastes soon because of this. Things will taste better and smell slightly different than before because you won't have the smoking blocking these sensors. The taste will go away....(it is the taste of tar that you weren't aware of earlier....what everyone else smells on your breath) and remember that what you taste is because of what you smell. without smell you wouldn't be able to taste anything! It is normal and will be gone soon and congradulations on quitting!!

Good on you gart, as you know I really really tried to give up when I had Pleurisy but still had about 3 a day with every puff being agony. Your taste buds are supposed to come back when you give up but whether you have a bad taste in your mouth or not I wouldn't know coz I'm so weak willed.

Hi Gartom - can I just say congratulations and keep it up!! It is normal to feel the bad taste as it is all the toxins caused by the nicotine that is in your body and lungs. It does go away eventually as my hubby gave up a couple of years ago and he had the same. I gave up 10 years ago but I can't remember!!!!

Within a few days you will probably begin to notice some remarkable changes in your body. Your sense of smell and taste may improve. You will breathe easier, and your smoker's hack will begin to disappear, although you may notice that you will continue to cough for a while. And you will be free from the mess, smell, inconvenience, expense, and dependence of cigarette smoking.
...so...because of those hightened senses your taste butds are beginning to taste the bacteria in your mouth probably...just brush often...and definitely use mouth wash to clean out your mouth at different times of the day...

Could be un-related.
Generally people with bad breath for example think they need to brush their teeth but bad breath often comes from the stomach and digestion issues not the mouth.
Can't say what is causing a bad taste in your mouth but I don't think its from quitting.
Good luck it is the best thing you could ever do for yourself!
