I used to think Christianity was all about love and forgiveness but since I started reading here, I've realised it's a lot to do with being judged and sent to Hell, for silly things like sex before marriage. I never met people like it before, so never knew that was part of Christianity, I thought it was loving. I think either I am not a Christian, or I belong to a different sort of Christianity, because I think Jesus is good, not evil and cruel. I bet I'm not the only one who is being put off, and I bet God's not pleased about it too.

They're great ambassadors, eh? Good luck on finding your own path. It's out there waiting for you.

You don't know God. God is love, yes, but He's also a RIGHTEOUS JUDGE, who will return and judge the unrighteous. You are making up your own God in your own mind. Jesus spoke of Hell more than He spoke of Heaven. Why? Because He was warning us NOT TO GO THERE! And, how to avoid it. Jesus said many would go through the wide gate, heading for destruction, but narrow is the gate to eternal life. If you believe in God, then you must also believe in Heaven. If you believe in Heaven, you must also believe there is a Hell. The Bible describes it, and Jesus Himself said it exists.
"Silly" things like sex before marriage??? God doesn't think it's "silly." He calls it a sin. And God does not like sin. He says it over and over and over and over again in His Word. Maybe you should try reading it sometime. I can't believe people come on here saying things about which they know absolutely nothing about.
Jesus never said being a Christian was ALL about love, and forgiveness. That's only part of it. There is also longsuffering, persecution, and REPENTANCE.
People these days listen to these "feel good" preachers who never mention anything bad, but all good to "TICKLE your ears." The Bible warns about such preachers. They will be held accountable for all they misguide. Please go back and read your Bible again! Make sure you read the Gospels, and Revelation, Daniel, Ezekeil, and Isaiah. There is prophecy galore in these books. Pray for the Holy Spirit to lead you into all truth. Don't just pick out the "good" parts you like, and disregard the rest. God Bless

There are a few 'logical' things about Christianity (and Judaism, and Muslims have it also). The principle is '2 or more witnesses'. (Christians Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor. 13:1; Jews about 3 times from Deut. 10-20). Applying that concept , The scriptural old testament is not Genesis-Malachi (Part 1(violating 2 Tim. 3:16-17, Joshua 1)) but is the law of Moses(part 2); witnesses include Joshua, David, Solomon, Nehemiah, Malachi, Jesus, Paul (synonym old testament 2 Cor. 3:13-14 KJV) amongst others. (Test; simple form pass or fail? Part 1;1 True or false question; Part 2 'fill in the blank'). Understand?

I understand how you feel. I read thru some of the answers and was amused by the one that said "christians don't send you to hell, they try to save you from it". The interesting thing about this idea, that christians just don't seem to get, is that the very arrogance of this belief (that they are right and everybody else is wrong) is off-putting. I had an interesting discussion with a co-worker on monday and she finally came down to that: if you don't 'believe' in Jesus and the Bible, then it doesn't matter how good of a person you are (even if, theoretically, you behave just like Jesus told people to behave) you're going to hell when it's over and done. My response? "So God doesn't really care how we behave." (Which christian behavior for the past 2000 years...and no i'm not just talking about the crusades and the inquisition...will bear out.) I like to quote Jesus, though: "By their fruits you will recognize them."

Sex before marriage will not send you to Hell, nor will any other sin other than blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. That is exactly why it's difficult to get along with some Christians. Jesus died for our sins. We are sinners, regardless of what we do to stop it. Jesus is good, and Jesus gave us the greatest gift imaginable. Don't listen to them. If we were going to Hell for sinning, then there would not be ONE person in Heaven, and therefore the people that claim this themselves are sinning by stating that parts of the Bible are not true, so they should take a long hard look at themselves before judging others, which btw is also a sin.

Christianity isn't that way, but some human beings are. Only God can judge you, not strangers here on Yahoo. Go out and meet some "real live" Christians. You'll find that Christianity is in no way about sending people to hell, it's just the opposite, it's about saving you from it. Try to look past the comments of those that would tell you otherwise.

It is really sad, but reality. Humans are full of the need to judge others and feel self-righteous. Christianity is the perfect recruiting ground for that. I explored the possibility of being Christian, till I encountered that my way or the highway to hell attitude. No matter how many good-hearted people are involved with it, there will always be too many bad apples spoiling the whole barrel. I will not muddy my name by being linked to this group, which has too much negative energy to offset the positive energy. When that many people get it wrong, you know something is up.

Not all Christians believe in Hellfire.
I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses. We believe in Jesus and forgiveness. But we also uphold Bible standards.

People shouldn't be put off from learning more about God. We're responsible for our own standing (though we should try not to stumble others).

Ask your local Kingdom Hall for the book "What does the Bible really teach". We accept contributions for our publications, but other than that, there is no fee for the book and it answers many Bible questions.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is about the love of God for those who repent of sin.

God loved us enough to hang on the cross and bleed and die, and show us the truth of it by arising on the third day, and those who receive this truth respond to God.

Those who don't repent, don't.

God is not an invisible force of good and light. That is the force that is on the opposite side of evil from good in the knowledge of good and evil.

God is one. The world, the flesh, and the devil subscribes to the knowledge of two.

If a man makes up his own rules then is he really moral?
In his own eyes he will be, but to others they will see he is flawed.
This is you. You have based your morality on what you think is loving, but you could be wrong about that. Is it loving to your future children that you may pass HIV to them?
Is it loving to your future husband to know you have been with others?
If you do become pregnant and get an abortion is it loving to kill the unborn?
We Christians have a moral guide that comes not from our own thinking but from the Highest Authority in all of Creation. God.
It would be unloving for us to allow others to die and face a Holy God knowing what he expects from man.
I love you and I don't want to see harm come to you.

I'm sorry that you feel that way. Of course, if you're going to judge Jesus Christ by christians with whom you disagree, then you should also judge eating by the times that something you ate disagreed with you and made you puke up your guts. No more eating for me, no sir! That macaroni salad had me up all night!
