A dead spirit is one that is separated from the eternal uncreated life of God - the only True Life in the Universe.

"As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved."

Ephesians 2:1-5

Depends on the context I suppose?

From a spiritual pov, people who have lost enthusiasm and faith in spiritual attainments could be said to have a dead spirit, meaning their spirits are low or completely gone.

From a Buddhist pov, death is the final separation of body and mind. In this context, the mind continues, but such a person isn't referred to as a "dead spirit" although the person who has died still has practices done for their wellbeing.

Some people believe in the ghosts of people who have died, so that could be a 'dead spirit', hence the saying 'the spirit of the dead'.

In Buddhist teachings, you find explanations of spirits. There are many different categories, characteristics, places of habitation and so on. Some inhabit the God realms, some inhabit geographic locations and regions of our planet, some are called Hungry Spirits/Ghosts, some inhabit our gross and subtle bodies and so on. There are many instances of interaction between humans and such spirits, and practitioners or Masters with highly developed concentration are able to perceive such beings and the places they inhabit. But such spirits are not called 'dead spirits'.

If you are thinking of a spirit in physical terms then it can die and disappear. But a spirit is a supernatural entity and it cannot be killed or die in the sense of ceasing to exist. But it can die in others ways - in can cease to have relationships with other spirits.

I have never heard this before. Here is my opinion.

When we die we leave our body behind, because we are not our body. Our Spirit, our essence goes on and we continue.
A Spirit never dies, it is the body that dies.
