SWR is the (S)tanding (W)ave (Ratio) of the output radio frequency to antenna ratio. The way to match it is with a SWR meter and then varing the length of either the cable between the radio and the antenna or the actual antenna length. The ideal ratio would be a 1:1 match but that is only in theory. However, you want match the ratio as close to 1:1 as possible this will allow the best transmission and receiving capability of the radio. Once you have matched the ratio then you remove the SWR meter from the system. This is a highly complicated task and should only be performed by a technician as if you do the wrong thing you can ruin the CB. So, unless you are technically skilled I would recommend that you take it to a CB radio installer and have it installed. Also, if the SWR is to high it can ruin the radio as well. So, please do not transmit until you are sure of the SWR. I tried to explain this in layman terms but it is much more technical than this...

The SWR is a ratio of the antenna cable to frequency of the radio. SWR is an abbreviation for "standing wave ratio" to change it the transmitter lead must be adjusted to the radio. It should not be readily adjustable by a layman. If you think the SWR is a problem, take the unit to a qualified radio repair facility. If it is still under warranty, return it to the manufacturer. Good Luck, Jim.
