does god really need anyone to defend him? if he truly exists and is as powerful as people claim he is, how come he never stands up for himself? why does he leave it up to people who might possibly be misunderstanding him to defend him? couldn't so many wars be prevented if he just stepped up and said who he is. i'll probably get a few responses pertaining to free will. so i'll put it like this. let's say two friends of yours who aren't friends with each other are about to kill each other over who is your best friend. well, maybe not kill each other, but get into fight. would you do anything to stop them from fighting? would you just let it happen and say, well, they have free will. they can do what they want. or would you try and at least reason with the both of them so that they will get along a little bit better.

beta, i saw the whole free will thing differently too until someone questioned me on it. that's the point of these questions. those who think differently usually have never given enough thought to the obvious.

A real god wouldn't need anyone to defend him - really, when religious folks take this sort of line, it's their own beliefs they're seeking to defend, not their deity.

Yes, God can defend Himself. The problem occurs with who people feel they are being attacked personally.

It's one thing for an atheist to say "Well, I don't believe in religion."

But it's quite another to say, "I don't believe in that fairy tale drivel YOU believe in. YOUR beliefs are a LIE."

Them's fightin' words and of course, human nature will take over.

Same goes for people who say to atheists "You're evil and going to hell." Gets pretty much the same reaction. They feel that they need to defend themselves.

So if my two buds were gonna kill each other, I'd call 911. Reasoning and logic go out the window in the wake of violence, anger and hatred.

I think you know the answer. It's all made up to help control our free will. They threaten christains with Hell to keep them from doing bad things. ------ I could always be wrong -- but if I'm right, it's working pretty well -- But not for all of them. I personally don't believe in that fairytale because it's not logical. I'm a right brained person and I still know it's not logical. ---------- If God was real, we wouldn't have to eat to stay alive. We wouldn't get sick from eating sugar. And there wouldn't be so much hate in this world. If the bible was right, there wouldn't be fossils and we wouldn't be related to monkeys.

Those who believe in God obviously see the whole free will thing a bit differently than you do, so what's the point of continually trying to "prove" to them that they're wrong?

He hears this word of Jehovah to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by military force, nor by power, but by God’s spirit.’ found at Zechariah 4:6. so God Doesn't need humans to fight for him, and the fighting their doing Now has Nothing to do with God. It's because of man's Greed!

hes not doing anything. is us that take his words, and turn them into excuses for war. the fact is monotheism in general, is really all just delving way to deep into what essentially is one simple obvious rule: be nice.

That's an excellent point, people shouldn't have to defend themselves and yet they do so anyway.

Maybe it has something to do with Ego.
