There's no logic but when the NHS act was passed (1947 ish I think) topping up was actually made unlawful as NHS is meant to be free for all!. The Tories tried to get this changed a couple of years ago but failed.
If top ups were allowed how long would it be before they were expected, that's my worry. I do feel for this lady and wish I had an answer to the problem.

Since when has logic operated in the administration of the NHS?

In fact we are in a bit of a cleft stick here , push this too hard and wee will find we are all required to pay for all sorts of things covered by the NHS now.

I have yet to hear of any serious attempts to eradicate MRSA

It's total rubbish. Surely the patient comes first and a cancer patient deserves all the help she can get. Any sane person would be delighted to see a complete recovery, and wish them well with their extra treatment.
