I had my son c-section two and a half months ago. It was a scheduled c-section. I bled for four weeks. Well I just got my first period about 5 days ago. I am bleeding very very heavy. sorry, but it is like pouring out of me. I am taking loestrin birth control and was just wondering was your first period horrible after a c-section. I have heard that it takes a couple cycles to return to normal. But I thought that my bc would be helping me out. Thanks in advanced!

Holy crap! My older sister was actually in the EXACT same situation as you 3 years ago. The blood did in fact pour out, and she was on birth control immediately after birth too. She went to the hospital, and they STILL told her it was normal! It did clear up within the week, but she stopped taking the birth control pills too. Maybe you should do that same ;_; im sorry this is happening to you, I hope you get better!!!!!!!!!!

I've never really heard that taking birth control would help the after pregnancy bleeding. Your body didn't have your period for 9 months, and it's just getting rid of the stuff that's left over (more or less). Your period should return to normal after a few cycles. Mine took 4-5 months.

I had a cesarean, but I chose to get an IUD instead of going back on the pill, so I don't have periods at all. My son will be 2 in February. After birth, I bled for about4 weeks, then it stopped for a week, and then I bled for a few more days.

It it seems excessive to you, if you begin to feel cold, thirsty, and lightheaded, I would go see your doctor, or at least call the office. Based on my experience, it sounds like a lot, but I had my IUD in at 7 weeks and haven't done more than light spotting since.

I have had 4 previous c- sections. It took 3 months for my pillls to kick in. But at the time I thought I was bleeding to death. It was horible and has been the same in all the past4. so if you are doing what i did i think it is very normal dont worry. plus they say the first period after a baby is the worst!

This may sound a little gross but if it has an odd smell you may have an infection. I have had 3 c-sections (I'm on my husbands yahoo account, I'm not Ralph..lol) and with my third I started to bleed really bad as well and come to find out there was a sponge left inside of me and it got infected and that is why I was bleeding so bad. I would call your OB and just tell them what is going on and see if they want to see you. Better safe than sorry.

Hi Hun ..first off i had a section when i had my twins nine years ago and needless to say mine went wrong .. i had a moment where i feared for my life as the blood loss was truly terrible ...and it was so bad i ended up in hospital 3 times and three blood transfusions.. my first period was really heavy and painful..but i would suggest you see your midwife or GP as losing so much blood can make you very weak and anaemic..so for you and your new baby's sake talk to your GP he may well recommend you going on iron tablets till the bleeding slows down
best of luck and don't suffer in silence

Yes my first period was so heavy I ended up calling our Dr. I was on blood thinners, and they were part of the problem.
Its not normal for a flood, so I would contact your Dr. and let them know, I was also anemic after that and needed Iron, so let the Dr. decide. Be careful, and if need be go to the ER
