and what are the implications for Israel and any peace process?

I think there will be an early election and Netanyahu will win.
Polls show that if the election were held today--BiBI would win.

The implication to the peace process from an election and Netanyahu the winner would be simple--Israel would still exist.
If Olmert continues he will give Israel away piece by piece.

Unfortunately this is the only question you have asked today since your jokes that I can put in my bent pennies on. I have never been to Israel nor am I familiar with Israeli authors. I read voraciously but I read titles and not authors though I do have several favorite authors as well though I have no idea if they are Jewish or not. Well anyway, I really don't hold too much hope for the Middle East peace process no matter who is elected or running the Israeli government. While I don't for a minute doubt that Israel wants peace with her neighbors but I do not hold that same conviction in her neighbors. I don't for a moment believe that any peace process will work there are too many factions that will accept nothing less than the complete obliteration of Israel as a nation. Leaders may indeed sign a peace accord but at the same time they will undoubtedly sponsor the very people who strap the home made explosive vests on themselves and walk into markets to slaughter women and children. No PB I don't really expect 'Peace in our time'. But that does not mean that I will not be routing for peace. I was a soldier and I know the cost of war. At any rate hope springs eternal.

The next scheduled elections are two and a half years from now. Current polls predict that Likud will be the big winner, coming away with about 1/4 of the Knesset seats, while Kadima the big loser. If that is the case, I see Israel's chances of peace climbing a notch, as Olmert's approach is misguided in my opinion, while Netanyahu's is much more rational and realistic.

You would do better to focus on peace talks in the labour party without worrying about Israel.
