I have a great work schedule. I am off now until 1/14. Then from 1/14 to 5/15 my classes are on Tues-Wed- and Thurs. I get one week off for Spring Break also. I am off completely from 5/16-8/15. Then I work M-T- W during the Fall Semester with Thanksgiving week off. Then it starts all over with Christmas break.
For years as head nurse I worked some days / some nights. But it was my choosing. I only had to make sure I was there for management meetings on specific days. It kept my staff on their toes- cause they never knew when I was coming in.

At my last job, they actually let me pick my own schedule for the week! How cool is that? The only condition i had to work under was that i could pick any of the five weekdays to work on, but i also had to pick two of the three weekend days (Fri., Sat., and Sun.) to work on to balance it out. I always picked Friday and Saturday because there's no way in hell i wanted to spend my Sundays working! I have other things to do!
But if i had my choice, it would either be just like the schedule i mentioned above, or i could do four 10-hour shifts from Monday to Thursday and get the rest of the weekend off!
And if all else fails, i'll just do an 8-5 shift and rest on the weekends! I really hate working weekends because that is the time you should spend with YOUR family. The boss gets to see you for five days out of the week. The least you could do is spend time with loved ones for the other two!

The only think i don't like is how late i get out! and the long hours
I would love to work from home for half the time!
I would pick hours if i had to work a full 40 hour week with not having to be here at certaint time!
i would say 8am - 4pm
just so i can work the same hours and my partner!
or i would like to work 4 long days and have friday off ever week!
i just wish they were flexable like that!

I think it would be wonderful if we moved to a four day work week. Instead of doing 5 eight hour days, we could do 4 ten hour days. We'd still work 40 hours, but we'd get that extra day off to take care of errands and such.
We'd save money on gas by not having to drive the extra day -- which would in turn help the environment. Also, having extra spare time could boost the economy by giving us extra opportunities to spend money.
I think it's a win-win. Now, to only convince my boss of that...

1) 6 hrs/day, 5 days/week, 9-12 then 3-6
I prefer this schedule because it promotes a more balanced lifestyle. I can use that 3 hrs in the afternoon to workout, read, do errands, sleep, sun bathing, or start simmering your dinner for when you finish at 6.
2) Tuesday to Saturday

I liked 4-12 midnight; it gave me the day-time clear.
Second choice was working from home, in burst-mode:
10-12noon, 2-5pm, 7-10pm, gave me 10 hours /day.

A woman I was working with once told me she was looking for a job where she didn't have to work days. Or nights. Or weekends. I told her "Good luck with that".
