Given the great knowledge of Scripture shown and claimed by so very many people here, I wish to have your commentary on the following passages.

Of course, since you are all true experts, you will need no mere "translations".

Yet translations are fine. The Septuigint was a translation of the Torah, and Jesus quoted from it. Jesus also quoted from it through Paul.

Remember, knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.

Sorry, my Greek-English lexicon is at home and I'm lost without it when translating. I depend heavily on my commentaries (written in English). :)

(I see that you're quoting from James 2.) We're not saved by dead faith, we're saved by LIVE faith: i.e. faith that continuously proves itself to be alive within us because we exhibit good works. Conversely, as Paul explains elsewhere in Scripture, we are not saved by works, lest any of us boast.

It basically says that your faith should not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

Does that make you feel superior?

Because it makes you look like an @ss.
