The Pope accepts evolution - why can't you?
The Vatican (Which I assume knows its Bible more than the very vast majority of us) has accepted evolution. They have recognized a literal enterpretation of Genesis was no longer a reasonable opinion to hold. They don't think the idea is incompatible with Christianity.

So why can't you?

This is what I keep telling you people. Roman Catholics all by themselves make up roughly 75% of the world's Christians. Roman Catholics have no objection to the science of evolution. Only a small minority of Christians are creationists.

1) The Pope is Catholic. Most "fundies" are Protestant. The Pope has no jurisdiction over Protestant Christians.

2) The Catholic Church has a very long history of mixing politics in with religion (ever heard of the Middle Ages?). I suspect the Vatican endorsed evolution to avoid controversy.

3) If I want to find out more about evolution, I will listen to someone like Stephen J. Goulding. If I want to find out more about the creationist's response to evolution, I will listen to someone like Kent Hovind or Ken Ham. With all due respect, I will not go to the Pope for information on creation or evolution.

4) This question is analoguous to: "The Pope skinny-dips in the Rubicon every morning - why can't you?"

You would think that wouldn't you?---Most do.

You are correct--------the present and past popes both accepted evolution as fact. But then neither were scientist. So why do you believe what they say about evolution? Unless you already "believe" that.

You are not correct-----the Vatican does not know more about the Bible than the "fundies". Of that I can assure you.
You are also not correct about their Bible interpretation-they use allegory in almost all interpretations. They almost never use literal interpretation.

The European Pope does not accept evolution.

The European Pope does not even accept validly married male ministers married to females.

Evolution does not promote virgin births/births by storks in the sky which the European Pope does.

The European Pope promotes hiding child abuse/child crime from secular police departments to save Rome lawsuit money.

The European Pope has a difficult time even accepting English, preferring Latin instead of the Aramaic which Jesus spoke with.

The vast majority of fundamentalists are Protestant. The Pope has nothing to do with Protestants, just Catholics. In fact, the role of the Pope was one of the many things Martin Luther originally protested (hence the name "protest-ant") when Protestants broke away from the Catholic church.

Fundamentalists understand that a symbolic interpretation of Genesis ends Christianity. If dinosaurs died before any Adam and Eve could be born, then Eve's sin did not bring death into the world. If sin did not cause death, it is simply a natural event, then Jesus was not only unnecessary, he was wrong. If he was wrong, then there Jesus is not a god, just a mistaken carpenter with some profound views on communal life, given the knowledge of the time. With evolution then there is no original sin and no Protestantism in any form, because what is there for grace to do? You do not need grace alone to be forgiven this ancient curse.

Slow down there cowboy: Get it right:

Certain elements of evolution are acceptable, but it is Dei Fide that God created everything out of nothing. AND, A Catholic is still free to belioeve in a 6 day creation and still be withing the boundries of Catholic doctrine.

Evolution is a done deal. The vatican was just one domino as it were. If you look at the history of christianity it has absorbed any thing or idea it can no longer fight against. It's happening right now. Look at any forum dealing with religion and a growing number of christians are saying "ok, but god caused evolution."

The people who accept the Bible literally are doomed to perceive the world in the limited concepts imagined 2000+ years ago. Can you blame them for being confused?

The Vatican has turned its back on its leader.
If the Pope jumps over a cliff, must I as well?
BTW Never, but never assume the Vatican knows the Bible.
Like a very bad salesman ....they don't know their product.
