Although I am a pagan, if the bible said that I would be inclined to take a closer look...'cause that's pretty weird! I mean, if Jesus took the time to turn a door knob into an elephant, then he must be a pretty quirky dude and not inclined to waste time on war and so on.

You seem to overlook the fact that Jesus' miracles had a purpose.
He did not simply go about doing little tricks to amuse the crowds.
If you could stop closing your mind just long enough to briefly consider the purpose of his various powerful works, you might appreciate that turning a doorknob into an elephant does not fit the context.
