I have been working at the same place for 7 months now and I love and adore everyone I work with. I never felt accepted, though, because I'm a temp. Lately I have felt my boss become colder and colder to me, and yesterday she sat me down and said "the last day of your assignment will be December 24." and that was it.
It was supposed to be a permanent position, and now because she doesn't like me I'm not going to have a job. On Christmas, to top it off! What am I supposed to give my family as Christmas presents? I feel like a loser and I'm depressed because I don't know what I'm going to do.
She only gave me 1 week of notice. I don't even feel like doing any work. I just come in, sit there and leave when it's quitting time. Zero motivation. Is this okay?
Thoughts?

There will be other jobs you need to start hunting now!!!!!!!!!!! I know you are hurt but this too shall pass, the only thing you can do is roll it up put it in the oven and make it Cupcakes!!!!! As far as Christmas you just cant do it and that's that!!!!!! If they are your true friends and family they will understand and the fact of the matter is ....Christmas is not about what you can give someone, they will get over it!!!! Worry about getting yourself together right now : This is your storm and you can't appreciate the sunshine unless you have felt the rain ....Let this situation work itself out and don't worry about the things you can not change just do something about it. Go ahead and start on your resume now, and if its something you need to change from your last job work on it so you won't make the same mistake, if not maybe God has something better for you and thats why this is happening....Good Luck

If you're still only a temp why don't you go talk to your temp agency about placing you somewhere else? That is what they are there for. Don't let it get you down. There are other jobs out there, and don't worry about Christmas, I'm sure your family will understand.

You will be working until Christmas. You will have the same amount of money that you would have had if the job lasted longer. You need to get right back out there and find another job. What more can you do? Get motivated! Get up! Get going! Don't just sit there feeling sorry for yourself. Where is that going to get you? No where!!!

I'm sure your family will understand that you got laid off so don't worry too much about it. (Bake them cookies and make little gift baskets if you cannot afford anything.)
It's normal to have zero motivation because you aknowledge that you are soon not going to be working there so you are starting to not care much about it.
Just start looking for another job or go back to the temp agency and they should help you find another one fast.

This question has more to do with employment rather than Christmas.
If you have a union, now is the time to ask the union for help. Find out whether can they get the job back for you. Or find out whether can they help you secure a better retrenchment package from your boss.
A boss cannot retrench an employee just like that. This is especially so if you have been confirmed. Being temp does not mean you cannot get confirm.
See what the union says and in the meantime, Merry Christmas!

The problem with a temporary position is that you are temporary. Not trying to sound mean or anything. You say it was supposed to be a permanent position, but how is a temp position permanent? If it was truly a permanent position, you would have to be fired for cause.
Give your family any gifts that you can afford. Your family won't stop loving you because you don't buy them everything they want for christmas.

First, check with your temp agency to see if their contract with the place allows them to do this to someone who's supposed to be temp to hire. If it does, then I'm sure your agency would get something else for anyone who has a good record like you do. It's normal to be upset when you get sandbagged like this, but keep the faith. Something better will come along.

I know that getting laid-off at Christmas is a bad time of the year. Have you ever thought of doing crafts of homemade gifts for your family. Also have you ever thought of baked goods or homemade gift baskets with snacks or cookies in them. Christmas isn't just the giving. Christmas is also the love and joy and caring.

Apply for unemployment. I think you would probably qualify. Then hit the job boards and try to find something else. Just like I'm doing right now.
Remember, you should work to live, NOT live to work.
