yes, a week before Christmas and the manager still expects us to work.

We have refused, we are not picking up the phone, if debtors want to ring, they can, but we are not answering.

At the moment, we are looking online for jobs.

How would you feel in this scenario

WE HAVE BEEN paid til the end of the month,

we are just going to rinse out the phone bill to make calls to prospective buyers, plus call the bank and get our balances ( as they are usually 0845 numbers!)

the manager who told us that we are redundant has said that we (the redundant ones) still need to collect money and work to pay the other people in the other branch!

I said that I am working, but all I have done today, at the clients request is write off accounts... must have been about £5k worth of debt written off!

REVENGE IS A DISH BEST SERVED COLD!

This happened to me a few years ago and it does feel lousy.

However, it's unlikely that your company actually WANTED to make you redundant, it's just that they have no choice (hence redundancy rather than fired).

If they are paying you til the end of the month I think that you should still do your job and be glad that you are GOING to get paid this month. I'm sure they'll happily let you surf the net for jobs or make calls, but hey, I'm sure there are some customers who will be suffering if you lot don't just accept that this is part of life.

At the risk of being hard-nosed, you've been paid until the end of the month (much of the remains of which is Xmas holiday) and therefore you should work. You do realise prospective new employers will be looking for references from previous employers, surely????
Re your edit: Yes, and imagine the joy that your employer will get when a request for a reference appears on his desk from someone who has been fool enough to decide to employ you. Revenge will then be served back up to you stone cold, my dear.....

I'd feel as peed off as you are.

I was made redundant practically over night a few months ago because my boss was made bankrupt. One day I was there running his pub, the next day he phoned me and told me the receivers were there taking everything ...... I didn't work there ever again and I had no notice that it was going to happen.
It happened 2 days before I moved house ...... to a new city for the job (I'd been commuting for 6 months prior to that)!!!!!!!!!!!

I really feel bad for you because I know how crap it is. Chin up and I hope you find another job soon.

I would work until the end of the period I had been paid for. What you are doing looking for jobs already is good. I wish you luck in your quest.
