No, MetroCards are only good for MTA busses and trains. Someone told me that you can also use it for the path train but I'm not sure about that. It will be of no use to you once you're in New Jersey. I would suggest purchasing a NJ Transit bus pass if you're going to be using the busses. And the price of the bus passes vary depending on if you get a 1, 2, 3, or 4 zone pass.

I'm going to fill in a "blank" or two.

A 7 day MetroCard is an unlimited type card. It is only valid on the NYC Subways and buses for 7 days from the time you first swipe in in a bus or turnstile. PATH will accept only the pay-per-ride (regular) MetroCard.

NJ Transit requires a completely separate fare payment. You have to buy a ticket for NJ Transit trains or the appropriate pass for NJT buses.

No, metro cards only work on the NY subway, not the NJ path trains. An exception to this is that you can get on the WTC path station from NY to NJ with a metro card.

You can't use it in NJ. You have to use their stupid paper card passes and NJ transit tickets. I think you can use the credit metro card for NJ transit from NY-NJ though. Just remember to bring lots of quarters for the buses.

EDIT:

My bad. Yes, PATH Train. Thanks Harry K.
It's been two years since I went there by train.

The one word answer to your question is No,

You will need to take NJ transit which does not take a Metro Card. You will need the Metro card in NYC.

Metrocard can be used on the PATH trains, but not on NJ Transit. The PATH will only get you as far as Newark though.
