The disc inbetween the joint moves in a capsule and normally has a harmonius effect. if the disc is damaged due to trauma, then it will cause pain on opening & may have a clicking noise too. Conservative treatment would be to use physiotherapy, heat, excersises. Injections of Hydrocortisone into the joints, may be considered too by yor maxillofacial surgeon. If the problem is more severe, then a laminectomy surgery to remove the damaged disc. surgery involves certain risks of paralysing facial nerves.

Ive got a friend. A product much like the K12 is out on the market which alleviates the pressure on the TMJ and allows it to rehabilitate.

Or...there is always exoskeletal splinting.

Hope this helps.

After a car accident, I have suffered many jaw and dental problems, TMJ cannot be fixed but can be managed. I had physio, which included exercises for me to do and Voltaren is my best, best friend for the pain.
