Are you quick to hear and slow to speak, or quick on both counts, or slow of hearing and quick to speak, or how?
Just curious.
For me, it's a mixed thing, sometimes I listen well, other times I just can't seem to shut up.

Hello there Brother Jed:)
Our brother James left us some very wonderful words of wisdom. One person said it right.. " we should be quick to listen and slow to speak .. thats why the Lord gave us two ears and one mouth... so we'll listen twice as much as we speak"
This person had a point wouldn't you say brother :)

How am I? Very much like you, its a mixture. And it all depends on how my own hearing and obedience to the Lord is going. Learning how to ' hesitate" and check with the Lord before responding really takes a special kind of learning for me. One dear older brother said once that we know when we are growing and maturing in the Lord based on how quickly we turn to the Lord in all kinds of situations. And its not just in the big things.. its in all things. Simple things like being cut off in traffic by another driver or how we respond to another's rudeness. This word that was spoken was one I put in my heart and asked the Lord to work on me with.

All too often my words have done damage because I ran ahead without the Lord to regulate me in any way. Yet there were times where He saved me from touching anything without touching Him first.

We have to admit that it does not take a lot for us to become unrenewed as believers. Even from the minute we put down the word after reading ... it seems that our flesh. and the whole environment rises up to wage warfare on us. But the Lord is teaching us how to stay with Him by turning to Him. Simply calling upon His name is such a quick way to contact Him in the midst of our reactions. I find myself doing that a lot during the day. Just enjoying His rich person by caling upon His dear name. " Oh Lord Jesus.. Sweet Lord Jesus.. Lord I love You... I love Your name.. Thank You that when I call on Your name I get YOU responding to me.. to be my supply of patience and widsom and everything I may possibly need right now... Help me to stay with You and not go off on my own and make a mess of things... Keep me by Your side My dear Shepherding One:)"

OH brother Jed. We are learning. We'll fail and flunk and be in desperate need for the Lord's blood because of our mouths and our speed...but as we grow to love and care for the Lord's preferences and His take on things.. we will be those who are channels of the Lord's words of spirit and life to others.

May our prayer be to keep abiding.

Ty for this honest post.
Your sister
sandy

For me, I do both. In my Chirstian walk I could always use improvement. I once heard a pastor say that no Christian should be complacent or comfortable with their faith. No human can be perfect and we are all sinners and still sin even after redemption. So we should all be striving for improvment. Every believer, even pastors, priests and even popes(though i am not catholic) have work to do on their faith and how they follow it.

I think that's part of the problem with why so many people (especially athiests) hate us so much and see us as hypocrites. Too many times do we "screw up" and do the opposite of what we should be doing. But I think that the world tends to forget that even as Christians, we are still very human and still make mistakes. Unfortunately Christians in general (like the war in Iraq) seem to only be able to get bad press instead of good.

I often open my mouth with the BEST of intentions, but before I pray about something, and end up hurting or offending. Example: A woman in our church broke her forearm and we were talking about ti one day. I asked if the dr was going to cast it and she said that she had not seen a doctor because she didn't have insurance and couldn't afford it. She was a single mom and was struggling. I told one of the deacons and he later approached her and offered to pay or help pay for a doctor visit so her arm could heal appropriately. she was hurt and offended by my actions. I should have asked her if she wanted help BEFORE I tried to get her some. Like I said, best of intentions, but not done in the right way. So, I try REALLY hard to pray things out first, but sometimes my need to help everyone gets int he way. I am almost ALWAYS quick to hear, though!

i can listen to both sides of an argument and understand where the other person is coming from. if they need help with something i basically just let them talk and solve their own problems because people almost always know what the right thing or the right thing to do is, they just make excuses. if they want my opinion, i try and to make the answer short and sweet that way they take my advice and dont think that i am preaching to them.

I like to say I am quick to listen and slow to react but I am flesh and I don't always do as I should.

I see myself as blessed and redeemed from every mean and wrong thing I have done. I see myself as loved by God and a work in progress. I am not perfect but my aim is to react as Jesus would react to others. I fall short of this aim/goal but I love the Lord and know he has already forgiven me for falling short. What a great God I have! I love him and hope to be more liked him.
Merry Christmas, may you experience his peace and Presence.

I prayed about that this morning - that verse came to mind.

Today, I hope to be slow to speak and quick to listen - because I expect God to answer my prayer..............

Obviously, I need strength in this area.
