yeah why not! Your hair will start falling out when you start to get old any way.

Unless you are willing to risk your extra long hair I would say NO Perm.
I get 3 perms a year.... I wear my hair short and have it trimmed every 5 weeks or so .... This morning going in for a trim.... I will be mostly without curls for the next 5 weeks... just a little wave... In January I will get a new perm and WHEN the hair is trimmed the old perm will be gone.
In the case of long hair... you probably will not want to cut it all off .... so as the perm "dies" it will leave your hair looking dry and frazzled.... with no real curl and it will be very hard to smooth.
Do you know anyone (with long hair) who had a perm 6 months or a year ago. Take a long look at their hair and talk to them before you make this decision.

Emily
When most people think of perms they think of the old style 80s smelly ones. Well things have moved on since then big time!!
I get my hair permed regularly and love it. My hair used to be quite straight like yours but now I love the way my hair looks, feels and moves. My perms are conditioning perms and my hair feels so soft.
The whole experience is great too - a few hours of just being pampered! Go do it Emily and enjoy it. You won't regret it

No perm are sooo damaging. Not to mention that if you've never done it before it might not even take. My hair will not hold a perm for more than a week. Also most perms don't turn out very well or just look really out of style.

I say go for it, but get a mild perm since it is your first one. Curly hair is certainly coming back in and people with longer hair look really nice with perms. And perms do not ruin your hair as long as you do it right and nothing to harsh. And don't get the tight, poodle look, but something like a spiral can be very pretty.

Oh for crying out loud go and do it ...... just remember your hair will not be 6 inches past your shoulders after the perm !
I've known heaps of girls who have had a perm (including my wife when she was younger like yourself)) and their hair grew out of the perm just fine . It just looked a little funny while it was growing out !

Once you perm your hair you'll have to keep it up otherwise your hair will look horrible, dried out and brittle. so my advice is No, maybe have it well layered then you can put rollers in it and make it look curly without hurting your hair.

Well, a perm ruins it, but if you want to just get it curled with a curling iron every once in a while, i would suggest that...

NO! Perms are sooooo outdated! It will ruin your hair! If you do it and dont like, you are pretty much stuck with it. If you try to straighten it, it will look like a big frizz ball.
