You are legally allowed to turn left on a red light if it is from a one-way street going onto a one-way street. That is the only time you're allowed to though.

I sincerely hope that will never happen.
In the USA it probably only works (right turn for them) because their roads are bigger and relatively less congested. They probably have more accidents too.
In Germany a pedestrian can also get a green light to cross the road and then find that he's dodging someone turning right from the other road.
It's only because the Germans are so disciplined that they can allow this. Here it would lead to mass carnage.
There are too many selfish, inconsiderate, impatient, bloody minded gits jumping red traffic lights already. Don't want any more excuses to add confusion to the road.

They won't. A red light means stop. If there are situations where it would be safe to turn left (and the road is actually used a lot), then there will be an extra filter light specifically for left turns. End of story.

Works in most US states so it could work here too (obviously they turn right on red and not left).
If it was put up as an energy policy, saving carbon emissions, then maybe it could be here too. I hope so.

I've never ever came accross talking traffic lights myself.
Can you please tell me where they are located. I might nip along and have a chat with them, but only under the cover of darkness, as I don't want to look stupid!
