I have been doing bench presses for my chest excercises and now I'm interested in starting to use dumbbells for presses. I don't know what the dumbbell equivalent to a bench press is. On the bench press, I usually do 12 reps at 95 lbs., 10 reps at 115 lbs. then 8 reps at 135 lbs. What weight dumbells should I use to get an equal workout? Thanks.

Dumbbells are marvelous. I wanted a tight stomach, and started with crunches. Got up to 300 - no visible result. Got dumbbells - saw the results in a week!
If it's any help, I started with 10 kilos. First did 10 times once, then up to three times, ten moves. Wanted to go up to hundred, but a trainer told me that a lot of repetitions just not efficient, so I added weight.
When you stop seeing the results, add weight.
I am currently at 25 kilos, 3 times, 10 repetitions a time.

there is no such conversion for loads used from bench pressing to dumbbells. I would start at 25% of what your 1 rep max is in the bench press and go from there

you're going to want to go a little lighter with the dumbbells as its more difficult with each arm working individually rather than together. play around with the weight and see for yourself...that's the only way to figure it out.
