People go to church for many reasons. Some because they want to connect with God. Some because they want friends and they have found a church that has an active social life. Some people go because they have needs that they feel can be met through the church. Other people go because they want to worship and praise God. (should I continue?)
We're all different. We all have our own reasons, but the reason that gets us there is not as important as the change that happens in our lives when we find the Christ our hearts have been looking for.

The church is more than a building where "religious" people go on Sunday; more than an organization of goodwill and charity. The church includes all Christians united in faith in Jesus Christ. It's the living body, or "bride." (2Cor 11:2; Eph 5:25-27, 32; Rev 19:6-8, 21:2,9) We were told to fellowship with other believers. "For where two or more come together in my name, there I AM with them." (Mt 18:20) We come to love and be loved by God, in corporate worship, and to love and be loved by like-minded people,in fellowship, before we go out into the world to love and be loved...

First of all, not all people go to church, There are different houses of worship. Secondary, everyone goes for there own reasons. Some do not go at all, and believe they can talk to God everywhere. Never sit in judgment, this is personal commitment

I think people go to church for many different reasons. Some go to be seen, some go for the fellowship, some go because they are seeking answers in their lives.
I think the real reason we should go to church, is to worship God and praise His name. To learn His Word and draw closer to Him. To seek God with all of your heart.
Unfortunately, I believe that many go just to be seen by man and to be thought well of in the community. That is wrong.

The first reason we go to church is to worship God together- and learn and grow in our faith. We are to love God more than anyone, then love others and then ourselves. I have noticed that when I step out in faith even when I need love, and love someone else, my problems get smaller.

People go to church for God.
Seeing friends and nice people there is also nice, but church is only for God.

If you're asking about the best reason for people go to church -- it is to learn about God, which is to learn about love, and to worship through our love for Him and each other.
If you're really asking why the majority of people DO go to church, I would be presumptuous to speak for anybody else but myself.

Other than diligently labor to fill an emptiness within them-self, I don't think they rightly know why they go to church.
I don't think they have an clear understanding of "Unconditional Love".
From what I have seen and experienced over the past 63 years, it seems to be mostly a large social gathering!
It also seems to be one business supporting yet another business.
"Peace be always with you."
