Someone with excessive pride may not be able to feel shame. After all, anything bad that happens is always someone else's fault. But someone with a healthy, balanced view of life has a reasonable measure of pride, which does not exclude the capability of feeling shame when appropriate.

You could have pride about how your raised your children - and shame about how you are doing in a class you are taking. Many situations in our lives will bring us pride or shame - so yes - you can have both going on at the same time. (but probably not about the same situation)

Namaste!

Also shame is not necessarily a conscienceness of guilt. Sometime it is merely a fear of getting caught.

I feel you really have to humble yourself before you can have shame.
