Why are allergies more likely to develop in the oldest child in the family?

I don't think they are.We treat many children with allergies and some are younger than their siblings,who have no symptoms at all.It depends on the respiratory system of the child not the age.

In regards to the above answer...I disagree..my oldest is the one with all the allergies and if you google "allergies oldest child" you'll see this very common...type in youngest child and you don't get the same abundance of results.
Studies have shown that first borns are more likely to have allergies.

I don't think it is only likely in the oldest. I am the middle child and I have them. The only things genes can give you is the likelihood or susceptibility that you can get them, but with the chemicals that are now in our food supply, soil, the way our meat are raised, and the food that we consider normal eating at our supermarket, it is no wonder that more and more people are getting allergic reactions. Plus our environment is being polluted, our water is filled with chlorine, and with the advancement in technology, we are polluting our air space.
