"I will give you peace in the land, and you will be able to sleep without fear. I will remove the wild animals from your land and protect you from your enemies. In fact, you will chase down all your enemies and slaughter them with your swords. Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase then thousand! All your enemies will fall beneath the blows of your weapons." Leviticus 26:7,8

Wars today are in no way approved by God. God is NOT on ANYONE's side when it comes to modern day war. Man has gotten himself in it. Wars faught in biblical times was about God's enemies of Isriel. God was for Isriel because they were the chosen people and anybody that stood in there way were destroyed (and sometimes Isriel lost some battles for God to prove a point). But wars faught today have no blessing from God whatsoever. That is the truth and I am stickin to it.

There is a big difference between the wars of the Bible and the wars today.

Jehovah told the Israelites through Joshua that He was using them to clear out the "inhabitants of the land" because of their wickedness.

He warned the Israelites that if they too behaved as those Canaanites did, they too would be purged from the land. That is why Israel was defeated in several wars, because of their disobedience to God.

God's wars did not kill people indiscriminately, it preserved deserving ones even the trees and animals were kept safe!!

If you read the context you will see that Jehovah was giving instructions to His people at that time the Isrealites. He was telling them that if they would obey him they would be blessed, if they disobeyed like the nations around them they would have the same fate they had.
The Isrealites were being brought by Jehovah to a land flowing with milk and honey. The people living in that land (Canaan) was so disgusting, that Jehovah said in his eyes Canaan was ruined because of the bloodguilt of its inhabitants. A horrible example of this was their practice of sacrificing young children to their gods.

The Canaanites were also grossly immoral, and this too affected God’s view of the land. He warned Israel: “Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these [immoral practices], because by all these things the nations whom I am sending out from before you have made themselves unclean. Consequently the land is unclean, and . . . the land will vomit its inhabitants out.” (Leviticus 18:24, 25) Immorality and bloodshed ruined Canaan to such an extent that God destroyed the Canaanite nations.
So Jehovah allowed the Isrealites to destroy the Canaanites out of the land and take posession of it.
When the Isrealites became as depraved as the nations around them, Jehovah allowed other nations to desposess them, disciplining them. So Jehovah's wars are just, because He is a God of justice. His wars are not like the wars of the nations, they are not indiscriminate, killing everyone and anyone in his path. He does not kill the innocient with the guilty.
There will be a final war by Jehovah where he will destroy the wicked from off the face of the earth. “As regards the wicked, they will be cut off from the very earth; and as for the treacherous, they will be torn away from it.” (Proverbs 2:22)
"But the nations became wrathful, and your own wrath came, and the appointed time for the dead to be judged, and to give [their] reward to your slaves the prophets and to the holy ones and to those fearing your name, the small and the great, and to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.” (Rev 11:18)
Does the creator have the right to do this? God, as the Creator of the earth, has the right to decide who will inhabit it. He also has the right to hold man responsible for his actions. Moreover, if God permits man to continue his course unchecked, the earth will be ruined for everyone, and life will become impossible. On the other hand, by ‘bringing to ruin those ruining the earth,’ God preserves our earthly heritage for appreciative ones. The Bible promises: “For the upright are the ones that will reside in the earth, and the blameless are the ones that will be left over in it.”—Proverbs 2:21.
If you would like to know how you can survive this coming war, you can contact Jehovah's Witnesses and ask for a Bible study.

See wars are not good things. If you follow Buddhist or Hindu doctrine even killing an animal should be avoided. It gives us mental and phycological push up when we think when we are clean of so called sin. But in practical it is hard a possibility. You have to survive first and when that condition is fullfilled you should see that others could survive. In the Gita suicide is a sin above all sins and not killing one who is going to kill you is therefore also a sin. But don't initiate any action that sparks violence, do that only when you realise it is your duty, your dharma, only mean of your survival.

Note that in Leviticus this promise from God is made about the land they intend to invade and the people who will be slaughtered are the men, women and children who lived in that land, peacefully, until the Israelites came along.

Thou shalt not kill is not intended to be a suicide pact with God. He allows us to kill when the killing is just. However, determining when a killing is just or not is not a simple matter.

Most theologians agree that just wars can exist, however there is (understandably) much disagreement as to when war is justified. As an example, consider World War II. Would it have been acceptable to stand by while Hitler took over most of Europe and slaughtered millions of innocents, or would it have been a more just act to stand up and oppose him, even if that meant killing millions of soldiers? Most people today would agree that he had to be stopped.

If you believe in the veracity of the bible, you must believe that god ordered the children of israel to exterminate the people whose lands they stole. Read the accounts of his "instructions" in various wars and battles. Kill all the men, male children and adult women; take the virgin females as sex slaves. Kill not only all humans other than the virgin females, but livestock as well. Kill all living beings other than the virgin females, reduce the city to rubble, and burn the groves of trees.
Apparently the god of the bible loved war, and encouraged it at every possible turn.

The Christians I've talked to have told me that the commandment is actually "Thou shall not MURDER" - and killing somebody during wartime is not considered murder.

I'm not okay with killing anybody - ever. (Pacifist, here) So - this is part of the Bible/Christian religion with which I don't agree.

God is love. It's the power of LOVE. In my opinion - It doesn't judge or punish or DO anything really. It's just a power in the Universe - that we may choose to use if we want. I choose love (God).

Namaste!

God hated the Egyptians and loved the Isrealites. That's why he said he would protect them with his covenant, as long as they circumcised their boys and offered up animals as sacrifice they would be undefeated in war and their enemies would feel GOD's wrath.
