Ever since I have had my cat he goes to the bathroom in my bathroom sink. He will still go to the bathroom in his litter box though. I clean it regularly. My cat is a male and he is fixed. I have no other pets and no children. Please no dumb answers like leave the toilet seat up. I am really worried about him and want to get this fixed.

I can't let the water run or drip because he does this when I am not home or when I am sleeping.

Some cats like to have a smooth surface to go on. Maybe if you clear a spot in his or her litter box where here is no litter, they might use that spot in the litter box more often, instead of the sink. Try to keep the bathroom door shut to discourage the cat from using the sink, too.

Cats generally does this when their litter is dirty or the brand or placement of the tray is not to their liking. Like if the area is too public or noisy. To stop this behavior try putting some bubble wrap or tin foil in the sink for a couple days. They don't like the feel of it on their paws. Or leave the plug in with a little water in the sink to try and discourage him from doing this. Maybe it is just habit.

BOTH of my cats used to go potty in our bathtub at our apartment. Thankfully we had two bathrooms, so we just wouldnt take baths in the one they chose to use! (Of course I'd clean it, but still!!) So I know what you're going through. We bought a house in march, and just recently the cats Love to play in the new bathroom..I caught my cat Scruffie once starting to paw at the tub, which is the sign that she is about to go potty, I immediatly pulled her out and said NO. Now she just goes in it and Sits there! I have to keep my bathroom door shut at all times, so they dont go in there, so that is my suggestion!!

One of my cats does this too - I don't mind, it's easier to clean than a litter tray!!
