I've had a lot of dogs - used to breed, actually - and have had everything from Icelandic Sheepdogs to German Shepherds to Tibetan Spaniels to Border Collies, etc.
I honestly have to say the best one's I've had - in terms of just "living a peaceful life" have got to be a Shih Tzu and Golden Retrievers, and if I had to pick between the two, I think I'd actually go for the Shih Tzu.
We currently have five dogs, including a hound mix. We love him so much, but he's really a pain to manage. The Rottweiller/Shepherd mix is probably the best dog (he's a "dog's dog", but he's very intimidating to strangers. Overall, as stupid as it seems, I think I like the Shih Tzu best.
I have had a Golden, and would go for that too. I also used to have a scottish sheepdog, but it was a car chaser (and a car caught him) - lots others too. They all have their bright spots, but for overall compatability, I'm saying Shih Tzu, or maybe Golden R.

On edit: I didn't say any of them were badly trained - actually they're all well trained. But they have different traits. I love my Border Collie, but he wants to control everything (because that's what Border Collies do). I had a German Shepherd but he was intimidating to anyone who approached. He was protecting - that's his "job" - and I loved him, but he wasn't an overall easy dog.
I'm just wondering who thinks what breed is the best for overall symbiotic living. And for the rest of you that criticize but can't even type or spell... well, let's not go there.

I love all dogs and I think the people who insult your choice and think your prejudice is just as bad as there saying you are. you know the saying DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS every ones partial to their breed and every dog and owner have different experiences. I have a shih tzu and believe me she found her mommy that loves her very very much as well as i found my match.

Different breeds are the best for different people but for me it is the Labrador Retriever. I foster and rescue dogs, and always have several of my own. So I have had many breeds around from Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Akitas, Pit Bull, Dobermans, Huskies, St. Bernards, Corgis, Australian Cattle Dogs, Collies, Boxers, Boston Terriers, Lhapso Apsos,Great Pyreneese, Collies, Border Collies,Beagles, Golden Retrievers, and a whole bunch of mixes. I loved all the dogs and breeds but really fell for the Labs. They are so loving, versatile, devoted, fun loving, even tempered, and intelligent. All the Labs Ihave had have an amazing ability to connect with you and others. They all have this strong need just to love you and be with you. Most dogs do but Labs just do it in a special way. I still have other breeds but I always have to have a Lab.

Irish Wolfhounds and Schnauzers..
The Irish is my dream dog.. I have done the research, I have met as many of them as I can.. but at the moment I am not in a place where I can keep them.. I live in an area where we can't have a fence over 3 feet and live by a very busy road.. and I don't have the money for a dog that needs so many vet visits growing up.. One day though..
I've had Schnauzers my whole life.. they are extremely intelligent.. their personalities are very.. alert.. They are quick to learn.. (and enjoy it) There are some real drawbacks to them.. (as with most breeds.. with the I W it's the short lifespan) They can be stubborn, while owning a schnauzer it's hard to own any small animals (like rats which I love).. They think things through, and can figure out ways to get into things you thought were safely out of their reach... but overall .. I have loved them all..

To answer you question (if in deed there is one) I personally love all breeds of dog. Well all but poodles which I abhor.
It seems like all breeds have their strong and weak points, and of course, like people they can vary by individual but overall it's been my experience that dogs are generally just great.
My taste runs toward German Shepherds. I've had a few Goldies in my time. Shih Tzu are kind of small and yappy to be my favs but if you love 'em then they're the dog for you.

It sounds that netheir of them is the best. Dogs have diffrent ways of liveing. You could meet one golden R. that is really nice and then meet another the same breed and everything that is mean!! Mabey you should just go look around at local shelters and rescues for diffrent kinds of breeds. There are a lot of muts that would love to live with you!

Well if you have room for them the Great Danie is by far the most loyal and majestic breed of all very social and they act like great big lap dogs. I have had 7 over the years and have loved them all. The male fawn types are usually the most calm of all of them. They need not be mean to be protective because of their size.

I dont think any of the senarios you are mentioning have anything to do with the questions you are asking.
A bad dog is generally the owners fault. Dogs that chase cars usually do it because they are the type breeds that round moving things up.....or hearding dogs........they need a job to do and when they dont have one they will naturally try to heard anything moving........a good backpack should reset the mind and give them something to do while they are being walked. It is not the dogs responsibility to figure this out........so I think your question should be:
WHAT DO POTENTIAL HUMAN OWNERS NEED TO RESEARCH BEFORE THEY GET A ANIMAL?

I have had many different dogs, and they all were awesome dogs. I really like the Akitas, which I have two and I would like to get another one soon.

Are you saying there are bad breeds? I don't think so. I'm whippet/greyhound prone, and I have a pit bull mix sending me love looks as we speak. Got my whippet boy curled up next to me. I think they are all so easy to love.
