I need a recipe for sugar cookies that I can make cut outs with and when I bake the cookie, the dough does not expand.

Cookies: Ingredients –

1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

In a large bowl combine cream butter and sugar. Add one egg at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the buttermilk and extracts. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt, gradually add to creamed mixture. Cover and refrigerate over night or until easy to handle.
On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough to 1.4 inch thickness. Cut with floured 2 1/2 in. cookie cutters. Place 1 inch apart on greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 for 6-7 minutes, or until lightly browned. Remove to wire rack to cool.

Frosting: Ingredients - 1/4 cup butter, softened
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 to 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream

Food color - optional
Red-hot candies - optional
colored sugar - optional
colored sprinklers - optional
In a small bowl combine the butter , confectioners' sugar, extract and enough cream to achieve spreading consistency. Add food coloring if desired. Frost cookies and decorate.
Makes 8 1/2 dozen

this is called the ultimate sugar cookie
1&1/4 c sugar,1 c butter,2 eggs,1/4 c light corn syrup,1tblsp vanilla,3c all purpose flour,3/4 tsp baking powder,1/2 tsp baking soda,1/2 tsp salt
heat oven to 375. combine sugar,and butter in large bowl,beat at med speed of electric mixer,untill well blended . add eggs ,syrup and vanilla untill well blended and fluffy. combine flour ,sodas and salt. add gradually to creamed mixture at low speed . Mix untill well blended. divide dough into 4 quarters .spread 1 tblsp flour on wax paper. flatten slightly with hands. roll out dough to 1/2 in thickness and cut cookies out . place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet for 5-9 mins. cool on wire rack . good luck and merry christmas.
