I call them "bits" at the moment. As in, wash your bits when she's in the bath. I can't use Minnie as my daugher loves Minnie Mouse. Can't use Lou Lou as she uses that for Yoghurt (Petit Filous lou). Can't use Nu Nu as that's the Hoover in Teletubbies. Much easier for boys' bits.

I completely understand about calling it a vagina but it's a little too graphic and may shock the grandparents if she says it, wrong I know, but can't help it.
Don't want to use a word that she already knows as something such as a fairy as it'll have a whole new meaning.

I don't think I'm being Victorian in trying to find an alternative word as Philosimphy rightly says, Vagina is the passage not the outside and I don't use it when talking to friends and I don't know many women who use the word Vagina. I know it is the technical term but I'd rather pick another word.

when we were kids (there were 3 girls) my mom used to say "privates" and she'd call our nipples "diddies". I now have a son and he's obsessed with his "winkle" and keeps asking which people on the bus have winkles (loud and embarrasing but nothing a mouthful of wotsits doesnt solve).
Whatever you choose will be the basis of some funny stories when she gets older.

My recommendation is to go back to the 'pseudo' Latin. Vagina, clitoris etc. And the same goes for little boys' bits. Assuming they've descended normally ' testes', and the dangly bit is a penis.
Barbie and Ken are a-sexual and that can't be healthy.
Grandparents will have to wake up. Did your Daddy put his willy in your mother's flower garden?

Really, I think using "bits" is perfect. It's short and sweet and she knows what you mean by it... Why switch from one euphemism to another euphemism?
Keeps the bits as bits :)
edit to add:
Oh and the main problem with using the word "vagina" is it's just lame (not to mention inaccurate*). Why do people think one has a hang up or is repressed just because they don't want to use 3 syllables when 1 would suffice.
*And besides the "vagina" is only part of the bits, the vagina is the hole to put it bluntly. The external bits are really called a vulva, if you want to get technical.
Sweety don't forget to wash your vagina and your labia majora and labia minora and your clit and your urethra....
Yeah just wash your "bits"

Tu Tu is one I have heard
'front' is one that works well when they start school and such, this will cut down any confusion of her calling it something that no one has heard of before.
TT is another since you associate with urinating.
Private is one that is really the best bc this is what drs and schools tend to use, and she needs to know this before starting school so she does not end up confused. Having her know and understand other words for it is good. Have her learn it as her private as well.
Another thing that is good is her bathing suit area. This defines the area just in case there is ever a problem, and she will be able to describe where it is.

I agree that 'vagina' would be ideal. If you insist on having her use euphemisms then she may get the idea that it's something to be ashamed of. And how often is she going to talk to her grandparents about it anyway?
But if that's not going to happen, how about gaflavity?

Vagina.
These pseudonyms only perpetuate the problems of children, and eventually people, being embarassed about sex. Don't worry, they'll still show decorum, but do you really want her to end up like you, a woman who fears she'll corrupt her child if she refers to a piece of her anatomy by *OH MY GOD* the correct anatomical name.
In my household, this was never a problem. Don't let your children inherit your bad habits.

As much as answers can be comical and entertaining, it's important that correct names are given to your little girl's lady bits. She has a vagina. That is the anatomically correct word to use. It's not offensive. If it was offensive I would not be able to say it on this site.
I know it's not really right to yell out from the kitchen when you're cooking their dinner "Make sure you wash your vagina honey". You need to speak to her privately and explain why it's important to maintain good genital hygiene.
Getting them to brush their teeth is often harder!

I'm with Tracy M. Teach her the proper name. The reason people find it embarassing is because they allow it to. Don't add to the confusion and allow it to become self-perpetuating.

Tracy: because kids have a tendency to yell words like that out in public, and it tends to be embarrassing... Kids can sense words that they're not supposed to use, and that makes them want to say them that much more...
