This is something from a newspaper in the towni grew up in. a little town inPennsylvania.
And a mom of a soilder wrote into the Editor.
I absolutely love this::
Editor,
You saw me every day going about life as usual – or so it may have seemed.
I may have rubbed shoulders with you at work or church or the local grocery store.
You might have seen me anywhere like any normal person, but don’t be deceived: My life has not been "normal" for many, many months.
I am the mom of an American soldier.
Although I continued the routines of life, I did so with a heavy heart and distracted mind.
There are some tell-tale signs of who I am. I’m the one with the yellow ribbon pinned on my clothing. It was fresh and new when my son first deployed a year ago.
Even though the war is supposedly over, my son is in a place where bullets and grenades are still killing our soldiers.

I am determined to wear my ribbon until he comes home, because it reminds me to pray for him every minute.
When you see me wearing that ribbon, please stop and whisper a prayer for him and all the others still there.
My house is the one with the faded yellow ribbons on the tree in the front yard and all along the fence in the driveway.
There is an American flag on a pole attached to the back porch, and a small red-and-white banner with a blue star in the middle on my front door.
When you drive by a house of this description, please pray for the son or daughter overseas and for the parents waiting inside for their soldier to come home.
To those of you who have posted yellow ribbons at your homes and businesses, thank you.
It warms my heart every time I see your expressions of support for our troops.
One of the hardest things about being the mother of an American soldier is being half a world away from the post of my son’s unit.

Every week is like a rollercoaster ride that I want to get off. When I read a soldier has been killed and his name has not been released pending notification of family, I become nervous and restlessness and insomnia rule my life until 24 hours have passed and the men in dress uniforms have not appeared at my door.
I pray constantly they will never come.
When you hold your baby close, remember we mothers of American soldiers held our babies, too.
Now our "babies" are putting themselves in harm’s way for your babies.
And if you see a woman at the store buying beef jerky, oatmeal pies, baby wipes and Swedish fish, check to see if she is wearing a yellow ribbon.
If so, stop and pray for her. She is probably the mom of an American soldier, getting ready to send her soldier another "care package."
You may see tears in her eyes or dark circles under them. I am there among you, trying to carry on some semblance of a normal life.

I appreciate the link. I think the song does a good job at expressing some of my feelings when I was deployed. I didn't quite make it to my mission, but my brothers and sisters in my unit are still serving over there. It just kinda feels like you're doing something wrong to know that they're over there in a combat zone while you're sitting here on a doggone laptop in the comfort of your own home, you know?
Then, to make matters worse, people come up to me and thank me for 'what I'm doing.' I haven't done anything! It's the guys that are over there right now that need our thanks and support, not me! I love those guys as much or more than my family.
I know this is cliche, and too many people say this without meaning it, but I could honestly say that I'd take a bullet for just about any one of them, and I know they'd do the same for me. You'll never find brotherhood like that anywhere else. That's why I serve...
Happy holidays.
God bless America.

as a navy vet, all i can say is after hearing that it is hard to write this through the tears. i lost several close friends in Beirut when that chopper went down, as for the troops in iraq, afganistan, and places too small to be on any map, may god watch over them and bring them home safe, as for georgw w. i hope he's happy about all the young men and women that he is continuing to sacrifice every day. there is a special place in hell reserved for him and all his cronies in washington. i think that before we have a police action,(which is actually what iraq is) that the presidents or dictators or what the hell ever they want to be called, should be locked in a room together and the one that walks out wins the war.and this bullshit of a presidents or senators child not having to serve just like the average citizen is BULLSHIT. it should be the same for everyone, i don't care who you are.

thanks, that is was great. that would bring a tear to anyones eyes. I'm not christian, but I still pray. and I do pray for my battle buddies. for them to stay safe this holiday and to be able to contact thier families. That may be me next year.
I hear the post office is refusing to hire extra help for package screening, so they are not allowing the 'any wounded soldier' care packages to be sent through the mail. If you have any trouble with that, talk to a service member that you know; address it to them, and they can bring it over to them. I'm at the hospital in GA. not many wounded soldiers here. if you want me to take any packages to them here, let me know. leave a message on the answer here (or an update to your answer), and I will get back to you. I'm on here alot, so I will continue to check this.
Thank you for the support.
Best to all of our brothers and sisters in arms!

Wished we'd had those sentiments 37 years ago when I served in Vietnam.
I wish I were a little younger. I'd be proud to serve with these fine young folks. We had good people in 'Nam, too, and I still love them like members of my own family.
God bless them all.

The computer we have here at work sucks. I tried watching it and it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks are singing the song, so...... needless to say, I'll be starring this and watching it when I get home.

I support the troops.
I have never supported george w bush, the traitor that lied and rushed our troops to war under-manned, under-equipped and without an exit strategy!
Hopefull one day bush will have to face God and explain why he tried to claim that "god" told him to invade iraq and kill people.
