I own a Tamrac (no complaints except that it is now too small for my whopping Canon 5D, 24-70 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8 IS, and 580EX II) but I wondered if perhaps a Lowepro or some other brand might be as good or better. (Please don't recommend smaller bags or gigantic ones, something comparable to the Tamrac Expedition 7 or 8) Tripod attachabilty and accessibility are important to me as well as weatherproofing to a certain extent. Would anyone recomend the Lowepro DryZone 200?

I am planning on getting more lenses so keep that in mind (maybe 2-4 more lenses in the not so immediate future (my wallet still has scorch marks))

From what I understand, the DryZone is good at protecting what's inside, but it's not easy to open or close because it's so good at protecting what's inside.

When it comes to backpacks, stick to Tamrac or Lowepro for the most part. The thing is--backpack fitting is very personal. You have to try them on to see whether it puts the weight on your hips or not.

Personally, I use a Tamrac backpack that can accomodate a laptop. You could probably use a Cyberpack 6, which is large enough for your lenses and body, as well as a laptop. the Adventure 9 would work too.

If you're looking for personal recommendations, then maybe I should start with my backpack selection criteria which are similar to yours.

I wanted a backpack that could hold my D70 a variety of lenses including...
80-200mm f/2.8 Nikkor
28-75mm f/2.8 Tamron
12-24mm f/4 Tokina
SB600 Flash
and on occassion my laptop.

I also especially didn't want a crook to recognize it as a camera backpack.

For me, the Crumpler Whickey & Cox bag fit the bill. From what you're looking for it might too.

Visit shutterbug.com and type 'camera backpacks' in the Search box. The Aug. 2007 issue had a Buyer's Guide on backpacks.
