Hmmm...

"A psychologist with a divinity degree, Warren has emerged from the Christian community — three of his 10 books on love and dating were published by conservative Focus on the Family — to become one of the Internet's most unlikely entrepreneurs."

"Some also criticize eHarmony's decision to refuse to provide matches for gays and lesbians — a policy that differs from Yahoo, Match.com and many other sites.

"From a corporate perspective, eHarmony does discriminate. There's clearly a deliberate desire to exclude gay people from the site," says New York psychiatrist Jack Drescher, who is gay and treats gay and lesbian couples.

But Warren says eHarmony promotes heterosexual marriage, about which he has done extensive research. He says he does not know enough about gay and lesbian relationships to do same-sex matching.

It "calls for some very careful thinking. Very careful research." He adds that same-sex marriage is illegal in most states. "We don't really want to participate in something that's illegal."

Translation: We fundamentally disapprove of the concept of homosexuality and therefore we won't even begin to contemplate catering to those sinners on our dating site. To hell with them, literally!

Why should it even matter? It's a heterosexual dating/matchmaking service - simple as that. There ARE gay and lesbian matchmaking/dating services as well - do a Google or Yahoo Search - many will show up in the results. I am not gay - therefore I would not go to a matchmaking site that was well known for serving the gay community as it is not offering a service I desire or need. If I went to a gay website looking for a male to date - they would answer me similarly...Sorry Lady, but we don't do hetero matchmaking here. So.... eHarmony isn't a gay matchmaking site, if you're gay, don't go to it as it is not offering a service you desire.

I agree with the answerer above who said that just because something is not providing a service for gays does not qualify it as anti-gay. I do not consider gay dating services anti-hetero - they simply aren't providing a service for me, nor do I expect them to.

The people that started the site are devout Christians.
They do not make gay connections at the site.

Part of the reason for this, is because all of the research they've done as to what makes a successful connection has been with heterosexuals. They have not done the research with homosexuals, so it's probably better that they are not trying to make connections with gay couples at this time.

No. From everything I've been able to gather about this, it seems to me that, while I may be wrong, yet IMHO, someone doesn't go through the 5,000 questions of each of the 5,000 subscribers looking for indicators of homosexuality and furthermore, that these reports were generated as propaganda by their competitors, and as such, is a sad indicator of what the competitors are like.

Didn't know that, but does make sense.

Its really about the money though, and just a matter of time till a re-branded site that supports the Gay community becomes available.

eHarmony is a dating site for men looking for women and women looking for men.

It isn't a Christian site. Lots of Atheists, Jews, Buddists, Agnostics, etc... use the site.

It isn't anti-gay either. Just because a company does not serve the needs of a specific community does not mean it is against that community. eHarmony has research for matching heterosexual couples only. It's as simple as that.

I don't know about that, but they're awfully big on telling you what's "wrong" with you and what you'll "need to fix" before they'll match you up with anyone, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Probably. I could see how they'd get away with it with so much support about marriage being exclusively for a man and a woman. Maybe E-Harmony believes in making as many babies as they can. That's what they consider a 'perfect match'!

Who cares...
If you're gay, you could go to Adult Friend Finders.
They are humongous.
