Vegans do not support venues where animals are held in captivity or forced to perform for "entertainment", so no.

Many zoos often sell old animals to hunting ranges.

How can I get "thumbs-down" for sharing facts???

It's a real grey area. There are a number of zoos that exist to preserve and rehabilitate endangered species, which is noble. There are others that only exist to make money and exploit the animals therein.

It really depends on the intention behind the zoo.

(Not quite a vegan, but a vegetarian)

No.
I do not approve of or go to the zoo or sea world or the wild animal park, and most definitely not the circus.
Nor do I wear leather, eat gelatin, or use make-up or other items that are tested on animals.
And while I do own two dogs (both of which are vegetarian), they do not stay in a cage like an animal at the zoo would, and I do not own any animals that are confined like fish, snakes, birds, etc. etc.

It depends what kind of zoo. If they're kept in a natural enviroment like a wildlife park which doesn't actually capture animals from the wild then I think theyre ok.

I still need to think about it a bit more though and weigh up the pros and cons. I can understand why people want to keep endangered animals so they don't become extinct etc but in a way I think it's just for our benefit... like it's based on our desires to keep collections of everything.

Yes but now that you mention it it isn't very nice : (

The zoo we visit (toronto) isnt to bad, you know large inclosures and such.

I spose the african lion safari is better. Then again they have trained elephants and I heard some nasty things about elephant training.

On the other hand it may be better because (if the enclosures are natural and large) it exposes new generations to wildish animals so that they learn to respect them and how important it is to protect them.

That brings us back to the trained elephants, children will think of animals as being there just for their (the children's) enjoyment, something to use, if they see them performing like that.

i love my local zoo, the animals are treated like they are in the wild, they have big enclosures and natural food.

i think that its a good thing that there are zoos, providing that they mimic what the animals would experience in the wild.
the animals must have big open enclosures and appropriate food.

zoos help us from an early age to appreciate the depth of variety that we have in this world, and to be more cautious in preserving it.

so yes, i approve of good zoos, and i love going to my zoo

I'm not sure what this has to do with food or drink, but like others, it depends on the zoo. If the zoo has habitats as opposed to cages, that's not so bad.

I support wildlife rehab education. I don't support the traditional zoo.
