Who went were whoever was invited. But in England it was the King & knights who had the hunting rights and killed the deer and the boar, they had servants who collected the chickens, duck, geese & swans also farmers provided the eggs & cheese & produce as part of their tithe. The fishermen also gave part of their catch to the royal courtiers and their ladies.

In terms of days, usually a week, until the meat ran out. Then off they went hunting again in the King's Forest.

I was fortunate enough to visit Hampton Court Palace, Henry the 8ths home for his merry wives of England. The kitchens were a truly great experience to tour - besides open fires 12 feet long with spits for roasting the animals and a seat for the young boys who manually turned the spits - the original rotary oven I guess, they had a slaughter house for the animals, a hanging room for the game birds, a room for the herbs & spices, a dairy for the milk & cheeses, huge long tables for the many kitchen workers, butchers, fishmongers, bakers, who did the produce preparation and made the dough for the pies. It's a fascination place to visit, well at least it was for me.
