She's aprox 6mnths old i think. We found her about 2/3 mnths ago. We've fed her like the books says but now she just cries all the time for food and routes through her whiskers food box (which is now kept under lock and key). Am I being cruel for not feeing her until meal times or should I stick to my guns and say no!. I don't want her to end up like my neighbours fat cat Harry who eats everything he see. HELP!

She has had injections and I worm her. She has not been spayed as I want her to have 1 set of kittens.

To the gentleman saying about her having kittens. I see your point but couldn't they say the same thing about peple having children. My point is to experience what a cat does. Breed. You could say the same thing also about cat breeders.

Check kitten for worms as this can sometimes trigger over hunger, if you have been feeding the kitten titbits stop now as this tells her she can feed all day and not at set times

Put her a small quantity of cat biscuits down, with a bowl of water, so she can "top up" when she wants. Incidentally, she needs to be fed "properly" twice per day (once is dogs)

A lot of stray cats have food "issues" from not knowing where their next meal's coming from. If you limit the quantity, she won't get fat. (Harry's probably been de-plummed; it affects them that way)
Edit:
If you're in the UK ignore the hysterical screamings about the quality of Whiskas. It's perfectly all right. In the US, it may be different, but I doubt it. Also ignore the hyteria about outdoos being "too dangerous" for a cat. Unless you live on a road like the A1 or the North Circular it'll be fine (if you do, don't have a cat, it's simple)

She's possibly compensating for being bored; remember she's used to being outside. The sooner she can go out the better. You did say you wanted her to have kittens - but when she does, do you have homes lined up for them all?

The problem is the food...
WHISKAS is CHEAP JUNK!

cats are true carnivours.. so you look at the ingredients on the box and tell me what dead animal does CORN come from??
did you know that By-Products are beaks feet feathers and can even include cancerous tumours??? not exactly filling...

as such basically your kitten is eating nothing of value so it is always hungry.. and YES it will end up like Harry BECAUSE one trick these lower quality foods use is lots of FAT.. fat gives cats shiney coats.. people often think a shiney coat = a healthy pet = good food.. however because they have to eat A LOT of this cheap food they injest a LOT of fat..

interesting too they will poop more because they are eating more and most of it is undigestable...

cats should have access to dry food ALL THE TIME.. so switch to a decent qualtiy one

rule of thumb - ALL from grocery or Wal Mart are crap!!!

when you buy a better food you will pay more per bag BUT the cat will eat less so in the long run its cheaper

the first ingredent needs to be
Chicken MEAL, lamb MEAL or turkey MEAL...

NEVER CORN!!!!

Call the vet and ask him what you should do. This could be a growth spurt. It could have something to do with impending sexual maturity. It could be a thyroid problem. Bottom line: it could be something or it could be nothing, and since no one knows with any certainty, turn to your expert. Just call, and follow his lead.

Also -- I suppose you already know this -- but if you are going to breed her once, don't breed her the first time she comes into estrus at 8 or so months. Let her develop a little more than this. Kittens having kittens is not a healthy thing. Consult with your vet about this, and also about stopping that first estrus with a hormone shot so she doesn't drive you and herself nuts with her estrus behavior.

The best bet with this is just to call the vet. He may want you to try a couple of things, and if they don't work, to bring her in.

Good luck.

My immediate reaction is Tapeworm? She's been out on the streets so could've picked up something nasty before you saved her. A worm would take all her nutrition no matter what you fed her and it won't go away by itself. I think a trip to the vets is in order. The mere fact that you are concerned about her diet means she won't turn into an overfed slug in the future. Get her better first and then just enjoy her.

If this behaviour is not in her normal character then i would get her to the vet. I brought a kitten into my home yesterday as my sister keeps getting animals and after a week or so she gets bored of the responsibility. The kitten is the 4th i have had o deal with as she know that cats are my weakness. I introduced it to my cat and they were ok till the kitty scitzed out and bit my hand and scratched me real bad so i took her to a cattery. After checking her out they found a chronic case of earmites and that she was pregnant, i was appauled at this as she was only a baby herself. I felt awful having to leave her but i had my other cat to protect aswell. Go see a vet. Its better to be safe than sorry Good Luck

You say you found her so she was a stray. Have you wormed her? Most kittens do have a worm burden. I would take her to your vet and get her checked out also don't want to worry you but could she be pregnant?. Good luck I hope she's just being a greedy girl enjoying her new safe home

First of all dont feed cats or dogs bull*** biscuits as food, I was once a cat breeder, you need to feed them real food, Kangaroo meat to be exact, its lean and full of protein. Yes I know skippy is a cute animal but its tasty, and will keep your cat full.

Kangaroo meat is cheap and readily available in most supermarkets in the meat section where the cold dog food is kept. It is much healthier than anything else.

This sounds like worms or could be pregnant? A swollen tummy could be a sign of either. She could also be going through a growth spert. I usually feed my cat two sachets a day and leave dry biscuits down all day for snacks if he is hungry. I dont normally refill the bickie bowl again in one day though. I d take her to the vets as they will be able to advise more accurately.
