I'm pretty sure I have a sinus infection, but nothing I'm taking helps much. What are some ways to clear out my sinus cavities?

Hi MunkeyHandz

Here are some ideas to heal the issue.

1. To improve breathing and fight infections, inhale steamed vapors of the essential oils of camphor, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, pine, or tea tree.

2. Have yourself screened for food allergies and sensitivities, and avoid eating those foods to which you test positive.

3. Determine if you have acute (lasts 2-8 weeks) or chronic sinusitis. Untreated chronic cases can result in increased degeneration of the mucus membrane.

4. Avoid all sugar, wheat and soy products, soft drinks, foods containing artificial ingredients, and commercially processed foods. Reduce your intake of caffeine products, commercial dairy products, red meat, and refined carbohydrates.

5. Drink eight ounces of pure, filtered water every two hours; add freshly-squeezed lemon juice and a dash of cayenne pepper. Enjoy freshly-made, organic vegetable juices during the day, as well as hot broths and soups.

6. Eat an organic, whole foods diet, with plenty of fresh, raw organic fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, organic, free-range meats and poultry, and wild-caught fish. Use garlic, cayenne pepper, chili peppers, horseradish, and onion liberally.

7. Useful herbs for sinusitis include Echinacea, elder flowers, eyebright, goldenrod, goldenseal, stinging nettle, wild indigo, and yarrow.

8. Helpful homeopathic remedies include Arsenicum album, Kalium bichromium, Mercurius iodatus, Nux vomica, Silicea, and Euphorbium compositum.

9. Do saltwater nasal irrigation to clear nasal passages. Hot foot baths and alternating hot and cold compresses over the sinuses help symptoms. If you smoke, seek help to stop. Avoid exposure to secondhand smoke and excessively cold or dry air.

10. Invest in a negative ion generator, a humidifier, and add air-filtering plants to your home and work. Keep your place well ventilated.

11. Useful nutrients include vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E, beta carotene, calcium, chromium picolinate, magnesium, selenium, and zinc. Take flaxseed oil and omega-3 oils, as well as a multivitamin/multimineral complex supplement.

12. Do 30 minutes of aerobic exercise three to five times a week. Also include stretching and strength-conditioning exercises, and an easy relaxation technique spending five minutes a few times a day sitting comfortably with your eyes closed, breathing slowly and deeply through the nose, allowing the belly to rise and fall.

Best of health to you

On Oprah they did a show on nasal infections and problems, so if u can go in their archives... with Dr. Oz they used a bulb syringe for nose with a solution of warm, saline mixture. Warm, distilled water with a tad salt and kept warming the water. Shoot it up and just keep bathing the nose in this sterile warm water with tad salt. Using a microwave to keep the solution warm each time u use fresh salt water mixture.

Personally, I use Aleve Cold and Sinus meds as prescribed every 12 hrs. and I take a warm shower to try to open up my sinus and then dry off and sleep in flannel pj with a ton of Vick's brand methanol on my chest and under my nostrils. I try to get extra rest and sleep and drink OJ and live on chicken noodle soup. It works for me most of the time cause I don't let an infection get out of hand. I luv me too much to suffer.

Or u can go to the doctor and get some antibiotics like Amoxcillian to clear it up. You want to be sure to finsh the meds as prescribed and clear the infection. U don't want to relapse and stop too soon because u feel better.

You may need an antibiotic if you have a sinus infection but here are some things you can try: Put Vicks on your nose when you go to bed it will make your sinus drain, put some vicks in water and boil it on the stove and put a towel over your head and breathe it in, nasal spray, take cold medicine every 4 hours and night time cold medicine at night.

If you have a sinus infection, Youwill know it Low grade fever for one thing, Nasonex and over the counter sprays wont do anything IF you have an infection , However, some would say a saltwater/Saline based spray can help... one "brand" of saline is "Ocean" this is one thing suggested By my ear nose throat specialist to help keep from getting infections he suggested an antibiotic and then liberal use of Ocean other types of nasal sprays arent good for this situation,

If nothing is helping much then you need to see a doctor to get a prescription. A true infection will require an antibiotic. There's no way around that.

If it's just clogged though, you can use a decongestant (use psudoephedrine not the over the counter substitute stuff) & eat spicy foods with hot sauce.

You're coming down with a sinus infection. You caught it early. To get rid of the symptoms, put 2 tablespoons of salt into 1/2 glass of water. Use a teaspoonfull and inhale this into each nostril. It will sting some but the infection will be stopped. To keep from getting any more, take a teaspoon of local honey each morning. It will help your body develop imunities to the airborne irritants that are in your area. You probably blew your nose too hard and created cuts or cracks inside the sinus cavities that were just waiting to become infected. Don't get hooked on nasal decongestants. They will dry up everything up there but you will not be able to get the stuff out. After a while, you'll be at the hospital getting them cleaned out with a water spray. Not fun. Been there, done that. The honey will help you from getting cold and flu symtoms as well. Natural cures and preventitives are the best for your body in the long run. No side affects, no medical bills and no long term damage to your body.

Take the hose end of your vaccum cleaner and put it at your nose, cup your hand around it and turn it on. This should suck those sinues clean. . . .
