Don't take mucinex & robitussin at the same time--they are the same stuff. Take the maximum dose w/lots & lots of water.
If you've just started, I'd see a dr. because this sounds like it could be the flu. If you're several days into it, the shot they give you won't help, and you'll have to get through it.
Tylenol or Ibuprofen every 4-6 hours, sit in the bathroom with the shower on very hot and breathe the moist, hot air. Get some cold remedy that has DEXTROMETHORPHAN in it. That will stop the cough, hopefully. Honey Echinacea tea really helps (any tea with honey would help).
Feel better, sweet heart.

Whenever I get a cough like this---I inhale steam. You can do this by taking a hot shower, or boil a pot of water--after you turn off the flame Put a towel over your head and the pot of water---inhale the steam. This will break up some of the mucus and you will be able to cough easier.
Be observant of your cough. If it changes to a dark yellow or green--it means that you have contacted an infection. Also, if your symptoms worsen (severe headache, high fever) it is time to make an appointment with the doctor.
For a chest cold (which is caused by a virus and does not respond with antibiotics), rest, drink plenty of fluids and wash your hands often so you do not spread your germs to others.

I had what you had last week. I took my Robitussin and Tylenol and went to bed. I was feeling much better after 4 days. I've still have been coughing for a few days but I feel much better and so will you. Just continue to get your rest and you will start feeling better real soon. No need going to the doctor unless your symptoms suggest otherwise like with high fever, breathing problems, bad headaches, swallowing problems, or hearing problems. You just have what's going around this time of the year. Drink lots of water to avoid dehydration. Tea with honey will help too. A vaporizer with hot steam will help your breath easier.

Drink lots of fluids and (some warm tea with honey for throat), take tylenol, aspirin or ibuprofen as directed on bottle, cough drops and REST. If symptoms continues or gets worse(fever rises) after a couple days and there are white patches in back of throat, see the doctor, you may need antibiotics. Take care and hope you feel better soon
