Well, an anticholinergic nasal spray such as Ipratropium Bromide (brand name: Atrovent nasal spray ) will certainly clear up mucus. A steroid type such as Nasonex or FloNase will as well to some extent as they reduce inflammation and subsequently mucus production.
Stay away from "fast acting" sprays like Afrin- they work good, but if used for more than 3 days, you'll get 'addicted' to them- meaning something called rebound congestion occurs where the nasal linings swell disproportionally after the drug wears off and blocks your nasal passages and you need more and more of it to get relief. We've had patients come in to our office before that have been using it for 10+ years because they can't get off it!
Have a blessed weekend and a Merry Christmas :-)

NO, it just makes it "petrify" in place. It dries out mucus and prevents it from moving out of the body. Take Mucinex (in the blue bottle) and that will loosen the mucus and get it moving. Nasal sprays stop the movement, but in this case it's NOT a good thing.

No. The best way is to drink lots of liquids and take hot showers or a steamy bath, it will loosen up the mucus.

no, it just dries it up. but tbh...it does help you breathe temporally, which is better than sleepless nights of not being able to breathe. i love nasal spray. it does burn my throat for the maximum of 5 minutes, but it's totally worth it in my opinion
